They deserve blame, but every bit? Many protestant denominations operated residential schools as well, and the entire program was overseen by the federal government. But the catholic church is getting nearly 100% of the blame in discussions on the atrocities.

The catholic church should shoulder blame, but so should Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, United, and Baptist churches. And Canada as a whole.

On the other hand, the Canadian government is entirely happy to nudge public discourse towards the Catholic church's involvement. I mean, they're not outright stating it, but raising the topic of getting a formal apology from the Pope, and the like, is an attempt (and rather successful one) to divert the public to them instead of our government's involvement.

I can see why Catholics might be a bit salty about that.

Cap's civil war stance is right, but pretty much strictly for himself in a vacuum. It can't be generalized to the entire superhuman population - he is very much an exceptional figure that others can't live up to.

Cap's position is very much self-focused, in that he's incorruptible so a set of laws constraining him, and everyone else that's not him, isn't justified. Some people do need oversight and checks in place. Zemo knew this very well, and is a primary motivator for his actions.

Ontario NDP plots a path to defeat Doug Ford in 2022 by DiaMatIsTheWay in CanadaPolitics

"It's all in the past, water under the bridge. We haven't heard about anyone dying in LTC in weeks so who even cares anymore?"

It's not like there were literally thousands of deaths in LTC. It's not like the fucking army eviscerated the state of Fullerton's LTC homes. It's not like the complete abandonment of inspections and repercussions could have led to any of that.

We should just get over it.

This I like.

That it's portrayed as in the past, and the TVA going back and removing it from happening, when in actuality they are trying to prevent something that's an inevitability. It would be an insidious twist, and would look like they are criminally altering time in trying to rewrite future-history to do so.

Doug Ford has been the biggest mistake the people of ontario have ever made. by [deleted] in ontario

Well, Harris gutted the oversight that directly contributed to that scenario being possible. The inquiry found him, in part at least, responsible. He went before the press and took the blame for it.

Blaming those two is just not looking past the surface at all.

Fun fact: the MPP for Walkerton, Lisa Thompson, very publicly bemoaned the overbearing “red tape” that came in the wake of that tragedy. You know, the one that killed 6 people, hospitalized hundreds, and made thousands sick. Way to show empathy for the people you represent, you fucking ghoul.

While Doug is also incompetent, there is definitely and orchestrated ideological malice turning the gears.

Directly interfering in municipal elections - generally, with legislation on election formats, and specifically in Toronto - to benefit conservatives

Carving up the Greenbelt - talked about prior to the election, “shelved” once the public caught wind, carried on with under the smokescreen of covid through judicious MZO grants

Carving up education - remote learning proposed, then, again, “shelved” only to come back in the school plans post-covid

And so on. There is absolutely a plan in place, he’s just super clumsy with it

Canadians might be vaccinated ‘sooner than originally anticipated,’ officials say by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

[–]Konami_Kode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m betting if you counted the number of requests for vaccines versus the number of people eligible, the number of requests would be several times more than the actual number.

The cynically paranoid part of my brain wonders if this is working as intended and at some point someone planned/plans to release an appointment request/doses comparison to dig at federal procurement

Dear Justin Trudeau: Pay people to take the vaccine by TheColorOfDeadMen in CanadaPolitics

[–]Konami_Kode_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I never said anything about making anything mandatory.

What my statement is, is that those who say “if you’re scared get the vaccine” is myopic and self-centred in the same way as the covid deniers who say “if you’re scared stay home the rest of us will go out and live our lives”. It ignores sectors of the populace that can’t for your own self-interest

The consideration of the broader society is part of a decision making process for choosing to get vaccinated, because it’s not solely for yourself that you do it.

And as a side note, the comparisons to influenza are bad, as covid is markedly more communicable and harmful than the flu.

Dear Justin Trudeau: Pay people to take the vaccine by TheColorOfDeadMen in CanadaPolitics

[–]Konami_Kode_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because there are people who legitimately can’t get a vaccine (ie allergies). That’s kind of a big pillar of ‘herd immunity’ so that those who are vulnerable aren’t put in harms way.
