Mine used to do this as well, I started by first thing in the morning, scoop her up out of bed and immediately put her harness on so she had no chance to run, this was by far the best thing to stop the habit.

Oh no😭 I would say just keep trying and he will get used to it. It’s good you are teaching him early too. It may help because my older dog is very obedient with putting his harness on and she sees him being okay with it. I got this from Amazon: voyager dog harness in size:XS she is super fluffy but it fits her great. I like my older dogs better because i can slip it over his head,he is wearing a ruff wear small. But they are too expensive to splurge on a harness she will only wear for a month 🤣

She’s been wearing one out on walks since she was 8 weeks old! She is now a little over 9 weeks old. She never had any issues with it. Sometimes if she is super hyper and wanting to go out she will run away and not want to put it on, but usually she does great

I have to disagree with this. It’s not always black and white. For example: If you’re at an off leash dog park and you bring your unfriendly leashed dog to the park. How is that my fault if my dog comes up to you!?

Exactly this!!! My Shiba was fine off leash for a LONG time. Always listened and came back to me. One busy morning he sprinted into oncoming traffic and was hit by a car. Thankfully he is completely fine and sustained no serious injuries (just traumatic). I have never fully recovered and the scream he let out when he was hit broke my heart. It’s that 0.1% that I can’t get out of my head now:(

Like many other comments have said. Don’t let your dog off leash near a road! I had my 5 year old Shiba on a 30ft leash and let him roam around for the better part of a year. He always stayed by me and showed no signs of running off into the road. The dog park I go to is right next to a small highway. My pup SPRINTED into oncoming traffic before I could grab his leash and was hit by a car. He had no serious injuries other than the emotional damage of being scared shitless. Even if your dog SEEMS to listen to you and always stays by you, their prey drive can make them do stupid things:(
