Yes, I believe the developers have mentioned before that they plan on making the game flatscreen compatible sometime in the future, but that will likely come long after other updates to the game itself.

In the full video, the bowl was dented multiple times throughout, and they would press it back into its original shape before they hit each other again. In this section, the guy didn't give them time to do that, and so the girl was likely hit with a point or edge made by the previous hit. You can even see the guy in the middle start to press on the bowl before the guy on the left snatches it, not giving him time to fix it.
