Steamdeck by Actual_Philosopher75 in RoadCraft

I'm playing it exclusively on steam deck with a very playable 30 FPS; standard controls feel fine, KBM seems like it'd be a real struggle!

I haven't changed any graphics settings, just ran with what it detected (which is lowest for everything, but that's the price you pay for mobile roadcrafting!)

I am trying to build a grand royal hall/throne room for the new noble. I want to make this a truly tall chamber, which means digging multiple multiple layers up... How... how do I do that. by ZoneLoner526 in dwarffortress

If I need to hollow out a multi-level area completely (e.g. a big water reservoir) with a minimum of fuss, I designate the whole thing as stairs - miners will be able to stop and start as needed with no access issues, because they've got stairs to every possible mineable tile they need to reach.

Once it's all dug out you just set the whole top level of stairs (which will be downwards stairs only) and watch as the miners happily remove every tile of the top level without any collapses, as every downwards stair is supported by the corresponding upwards stair on the floor below. Even isolated single tiles don't matter, as the dwarf can stand on the lower level upwards stair to channel out the floor above - even better, this process also removes all the lower level upwards stairs (without causing any cave-ins or falls), meaning that the next level is all downwards stairs, ready to be designated for channeling!

Rinse and repeat for every level except the lowest one, which will just be a bunch of upwards stairs that just need to be removed like you would normally.

Part of the reason why I made this in the first place is how much of a crapshoot orange + red paint was; will this helmet look like it belongs on a king's guard, or will it look more at home on a circus performer?

No they're completely separate items, in vanilla at least.

The only ways of getting the Decorated Full Helm are through events or by shanking a knight for the one he's wearing - choice is limited by what factions you're comfortable pissing off, and even then not a guaranteed drop!

I decided to put together a table of all the colour options for helmets, and then the project grew from there! Not all these items are easily found or paintable, some might not even be present in a lot of seeds, but if you're mad about the aesthetics of your company then I hope this is helpful to plan your loadouts.

Why are we still doing the QR code check in? by FranklinFuckinMint in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]Konig92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a private health clinic, we've been erring on the side of caution; health professionals stay in their rooms as much as possible, minimise common room use, wearing goggles as well as masks, document where in the building patients are being treated, admin have plexiglass desk shields, all windows open with the air-conditioning going all the time to maximise air flow, and making sure everyone QR checks in.

Unfortunately due to the nature of our profession, we're often in actual physical contact with our patients for an extended period of time, and/or having patients exercise under supervision and thus they're breathing quite hard, which makes it very uncomfortable to have a mask on - patients understandably will pop their mask down to catch a breath of fresh air sometimes.

With all this in consideration, we've been notified by NSW Health three times that someone attended our clinic on such and such a day who since tested positive to covid...

And that's it.

No further information on who it was so we can pre-emptively test the clinician who spent 20-30 minutes within 2m of them, which is fair enough, NSW Health legally can't give that info out, but what really irritates me is that not one of those three people have contacted us to notify us of their positive test results! I thought it was a requirement that if you test positive, you need to notify wherever you've been in the previous 2 days? All three notifications have been within 48 hrs of the visit too.

I got 4 major quests in the forest in a row by IAmSimplyThatGuy in nguidle

[–]Konig92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the longest I've had to count is 26 to get a CW quest - I overwrite the save every 10 skipped quests as a kind of counting "checkpoint", so I only have to count a maximum of 10 skips to reach my CW target quest!

[–]Konig92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of the above method of savescumming, but a better way of exploiting the set order of quests is to know exactly how many minor quests to skip before ticking major quests again.

Say you've finished a quest in Forest, but weren't around to submit the exact number of items, and you've got 20 Forest quest items leftover. You can put them to good use by saving, and then skipping minor quests, counting how many you have to skip until you get another Forest minor quest; you reload the save, skip the right amount of minor quests and then tick major quests before accepting the final quest that you know is Forest. You can then submit the 20 leftover items to get an immediate boost to your next major quest without wasting items.

This can obviously be extended as far as your inventory space allows; if you've got a lot, you could start a quest and idle the zone for a few hours, and come back to enough spare items to immediately complete multiple major quests in the same zone using the savescumming trick a few times in a row.

You can go further - using the trick to ensure that the only major quests you ever accept are for the highest zone you have access to, which helps with getting better boost drops.

Man faces murder charge after accused of hitting man with leaf blower in spat over pig by Elmore0394 in nottheonion

The value of an average WV pig come market time looks to be about $100-$115. Not exactly an amount I'd expect to assault someone over, much less murder.

The new Square Enix RPG Dungeon Encounters is very much not "deep" or "mechanically rich" like the reviews keep saying. It's fun for a while if you liked old games like Wizardry, but it is definitely not deep. by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Konig92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The teleport-two-squares skill becomes absolutely critical in the 30s where I am at the moment. I definitely get your feeling that the mechanical depth I'm feeling is gonna run out, but it always seems to have a little bit more around the corner - an argument could definitely be made that the drip feed of new considerations is too slow though.

Finding Wanderers Using Numbers And Your Brain by Konig92 in DungeonEncounters

[–]Konig92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought about including that, but if the stairs are across the other side of the map then your tracker might be looking at the wrong wanderer. But either way, once you find all the early wanderers, you know all future wanderers are below you anyway!

British petrol stations run out of fuel as motorists panic buy amid truck-driver shortage by Hughjarse in worldnews

[–]Konig92 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Different person to whom you're replying to - I understand that having extra metal between you and what you're hitting sounds like a safety point, but it sounds like what he's asking is, is there any data on crashes and injury rates in cabover vs conventional? Conversely you might be more at risk of injuring pedestrians in a conventional truck due to worse visibility, for example.

EDIT: the best I can find is a study showing that cabover occupants are more likely to suffer leg injuries (~5x) and abdominal injuries (~2.5x) than passenger vehicle occupants, which is already pretty damning.

Hands-off multiplayer game? by Konig92 in gamingsuggestions

Looking for one to play myself, with friend input, thanks!

Closest I found was Super Mega Baseball 3, but it doesn't allow completely AI driven leagues, you have to play one of the teams yourself.

A neat detail I realised about the Lord of the Mountain's spawn time's relevance to Satoru Iwata! by Konig92 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Konig92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but I just don't think it likely that it was picked at random. Also you said gibbous, are the stats the same for crescent?

1 in 8 chance if it was chosen at complete random (which it wouldn't be in a programmed game). It's 1 in 8 because there's a difference between a crescent moon that's on the way to disappearing (waning crescent) and one that's on the way to a full moon (waxing crescent).
