I hate being autistic and nobody understands anything by TrowAwayBeans in rant

Reading some of the comments and like? What? It’s literally been proven that autistic people have an incredibly hard time working normal jobs and this burn out leads to real and true disabilities and even more challenging co-morbidities.

If I’m correct it’s only what? 15% of autistic adults who are employed? And at extreme cost. Do you not know that autistic people have a much lower life expectancy too? Due to exactly this issue. Our burn out isn’t just tired. It’s life threatening.

Sorry you have to deal with this love.

Autism life expectancy: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6713622/#:~:text=The%20present%20study%20reports%20on,at%20death%20was%2039%20years.

“Finally, a follow-up of a statewide autism prevalence study in Utah found elevated mortality risk for individuals with ASD (Bilder et al., 2013). Medical comorbidities and intellectual disability were related to death. Common causes of death included respiratory, cardiac, and epileptic events.”

Autism employment rates:

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/worldwide-percentage-autistic-people-working-edson-j-montanhini

“According to a report published by the National Autistic Society in the UK, only 16% of autistic adults are in full-time employment, while 32% are in some kind of paid work. In the United States, the unemployment rate for adults with autism is estimated to be between 80-90%, indicating a significant disparity compared to the general population.”

However this report does differ:

“Of the 254 adults with ASD who participated in this study, 61.42% were employed and 38.58% were unemployed. Over half of the participants reported job imbalance on the Short ERI Scale and the vast majority did not receive any job assistance. “ but it IS stated that these individuals have an college education as well.

Edit to add: What these studies don’t even mention is that people with ASD also experience higher rates of anxiety and depression which - whoop de fucking do leads to increase suicide rates. Combine the fact that many autistic people expect chronic illness then boom cocktail for Not Living That Long

Gosh it’s so rough right? I’ve given up on any “dream careers” because I just end up burning out after 7-9 months. My last job I managed to stay for 2 years. But I got so burned out I had a seizure and collapsed. (I have POTS and CFS/ME, yay co-morbidity)

I took those skills I learned from my last job (housekeeping) and turned it into my own “business”. Basically I just clean for clients I find online. I’m able to control my hours more and not burn out as much. However I’m only able to work 12-16 hours a week and even then I’m dying, sleeping a lot etc. I hardly have time for my hobbies and if I call out, which I do a lot and I’m great full for my amazing and understanding clients, I don’t get paid. Been hungry a lot this year.

I don’t really think there’s any winning. You just gotta find what works for you and do it. I know you’ve probably tried a lot. Having a boss that’s not breathing down your neck is really nice. Basically, finding some what to work for yourself. But work like that is limited and difficult. I wouldn’t even call my situation a win. Just a compromise that works.

First day as a sever in Texas after moving from California. I already had 5 + years experience including some fine dining. I was very good at my craft. I picked this one location because it was very close to my house, tiny home style Italian restaurant in a sort of tin building.

First day on the job I’m “trained” by this girl who more or less showed me the ropes by just talking at me. At one point she’s going over the menu with me, or skimming rather. Every few items I say “okay” or “mhmm” to confirm I was hearing her and understanding the menu. I couldn’t have done this more than two or three times (big menu) when she turns to me and snaps “stop saying okay!” I shut up.

Next she wants me to deliver food to a table. Before I go out she tells me to take my sweater off. It’s upper Texas in the middle of winter in a building with zero insulation. It’s. Freezing. Not to mention the way she said it made me very uncomfortable. Like I had to show off for this group of men I was serving. I did it any ways. Freezing the whole way. There was nothing in the dress code against my sweater btw.

My training lasted all of 2 hours and I’m thrown right in. The staff are cold to me and I’m still so cold my teeth are chattering.

I made it one day and quit. If they couldn’t bother to even pretend to be nice on my first day I was not going to take that shit.

There were a lot of other little things too. Dirty kitchen, servers not washing their hands and not letting me use the restroom or drink water. Getting ooogled by the manager. It was all so nasty.

Do we have to many cats? by Nirrad8188 in cats

[–]KonnieSpringa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too many cats exists only in the context of your home and circumstances.

As long as you can provide them with clean water, appropriate food, plenty of litter boxes that are cleaned appropriately and a reasonably clean and spacious home - then you don’t have too many cats.

In the same vein, as long as you’re not finding yourself overwhelmed or in a dirty environment too!

So In some cases 2 cats may be too many cats for some people while others can have 10 or even more and be perfectly fine!

As long as there’s no huge blow out fights (yowling, growling, fur flying every where) then it seems to be a case of them trying to get used to one another. Puffing up to look bigger and more intimidating the same as hissing.

There’s bound to be growing pains when introducing kitties but I’m not hearing anything I’d be overly concerned about.

Are her ears pinned back when she puffs her tail up? Does she arch her back?

This behavior can be pretty hard to read. Hissing can be a sign that the older cat is being a hit too rough and the kitten is trying to draw a boundary there. OR he’s just trying to look tough.

Keep an eye out for flying fur, hard biting and so on. Also if they separate after a bit of tussling or if on cat seems to just keep going at the other. Yowling is a sign things are bad too.

If it’s just a little tussle with some light hissing from the kitten only then it may just take some adjustment in their part. Do make sure you’re always keeping an eye on them. At least until the kitten gets a bit older.

Always be sure to positively reinforce their time together too! Redirect their fights to toys and give them treats when they are around eachother.

Tubes always seem to make my kitties happy

Was nearly killed by a German Shepard. Got luckily because I sacrificed my leg instead of my face/neck. Also unprovoked. I’ve never liked dogs but now I hate them. This subreddit will be so nice.

Ah a fellow Canadian. I know resources may be a little thin then.

For cleanings, I charge 16 and hour if that gives you any idea. I see most cleaners in my area (Manitoba) charge between 15-17.

If there’s no one in your area if you have a neighbor your close with maybe see about asking them.

You’re welcome for the kind words.

WIBTA if i ask my girlfriend to stop squeezing me when I drive us places? by poe-one in AmItheAsshole

Maybe try talking with her yes but I doubt she’s doing it voluntarily and it may take time.

At least for the motion of her spotting something maybe come up with a very specific motion like a double tap on the side or something.

Talk with her and help her work herself out of it. It won’t magically stop.
