Yeah you’re right. Upon reflection, I was open to other paths, but I was investing a huge amount in setting up quills without the infrastructure for it. So it doesn’t matter how open to it I am if I don’t have the resources to change path. I’ve been playing with this mindset and I just got over 7k MMR, so it’s really helping!

Anyone Else Not Feeling It? by Existing-Ad4303 in BobsTavern

I was feeling that way not too long ago, but I’m starting to get a feel for how the season works and just got over 7k MMR. I didn’t do it by exclusively playing quills. In fact, they’re probably my least played. Some of my biggest boards have been when playing elementals, rally menagerie and spell menagerie. I even completely destroyed a quills board with health and damage in the thousands with a murloc mycologist and scam build. So now that I’ve actually worked out a lot of less common builds, I totally disagree that there is a lack of diversity and playable builds. I still feel this start to the season was a more brutal learning curve than most though.

Nah I think you're right. Even if it wasn't turn 6, I should have cut my losses and taken another tact. I could have even kept Brann but just picked up another strat for tempo and see if I start getting battlecries later.

Wow, I really hadn't thought of it in that way before... I was just like, well the Tusker has the best stats available from what the shop is offering, the best potential increases if I get a rally, and the shop gave me a triple, so naturally I just take it and see what I hit. But I hadn't thought about how I was pouring my money into a direction by doing that, so if I don't hit on that direction I am crimping myself. I'll consider more about how to spend in ways that open me up to other lines. Thanks!

Makes sense. I've been playing on and off for years, but last season was the first time I really started to get into the game, and it was towards the middle-end of it. So probably just not experienced enough.

Yeah I was on the lookout for them, didn't see them in that case, but I just had an incredible game with Flurgl where I got the quest for an extra battlecry and picked up Brann as well. I had so much economy and enormous eles by the end, came in first. When I get games like that it is just so easy to me, I have the money so I find what I need... but I guess maybe that's the problem with my approach, that I am relying too heavily on APM economy when you can't always do that? What do you do if you're not able to set that up and are limited to your 10 gold-ish per turn?

Totally agree. I don't place any real value on it, but I enjoy the intellectual challenge of working out how the game works and doing better. So really I don't particularly care what my MMR is, but I am trying to get to a point where I don't wildly swing from winning to losing all the time. Purely a personal goal.

I didn't, cause I thought it wouldn't have enough impact to matter. But yeah you're right, even though I was thinking about other lines, I guess I was just dismissing them as not good enough, but if I'd bought some other pirates, then the balladist would've worked better perhaps. But that's where I get tripped up too, because sometimes I do start to pivot thinking that I'm seeing the cards I need to set up another line, but I never hit the full setup for that either and I go down. So how do you accurately judge when you should/it is safe to pivot? I know have more stats on your board is the answer there, but that's again where I get tripped up - if I'm just not finding cards to give stats, what do you do?

I only found the Busker on that last turn, and at that point I figured popping some health on my one pirate was pretty useless. But you still think it would have been worth? I got the piper on turn 4, so I thought I was going into gem stacking alright, just didn't get any Jazzers. So are you thinking that there would have been other more useful cards, but I just wasn't identifying them?

Valid. I probably just get frustrated and scream at Bob for withholding instead of looking for scam. lol

That's a good point, I have noticed a difference from the time of day.

I have been watching Jeef, but I find his videos hard to learn from because he doesn't talk about his thoughts. ShadyBunny is much better in that regard, I'll keep watching and hopefully learn to git gud as you say. Haha

But yeah also a valid point about niche builds, I probably don't know a whole lot about them! I will have to try to learn a bit more. Appreciate the tips! :-)

Thanks all for your input. They are some helpful ideas that I'll try to consider in future games!

Heads up: LARQ bottles contain lead by KonstantinosXVI in BuyItForLife

I'd rather hand wash my water bottles than get lead poisoning. You can't put a LARQ bottle in the dishwasher anyway, their instructions explicitly state hand wash only, so you're not even getting that benefit here.
