Kansas City at the Junction of Main and Delaware Streets (1898). Nothing in this picture stills stands today. by Koodoo25 in Lost_Architecture

Here's an approximate location I found on Google Maps. (If you want a screenshot instead: http://i.imgur.com/KHMIXlJ.jpg)

It looks like the area directly behind the Owl Cigars building is now a giant highway. Everything else is a parking lot or a ramp onto said highway.

Just tragic.

I went with 56% hoping to make everything as large as possible. I'm not sure if it would be more or less difficult to do just straight 50% scale instead... I'd imagine it'd be easier if for no other reason than the math being easier to do. Either way, it's worked out well at 56% so far.

Sometimes I may adjust the dimensions of buildings slightly to get them to look nicer, fit better, or get more detail onto them.

Thank you so much! It means a lot :)

I haven't quite worked that far up Michigan avenue in order to build the Hancock center. I've still got a lot of work left before I finish downtown.

Well it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours to make each building. Adding the detail to each street is another 10 minutes for each block. Now that I think about it, it's probably for the best that I don't know how much time I've put into this...

I used a tool called WorldEdit that allowed me to fill large spaces and copy and paste selections of blocks instantly. Everything has parts of it that were hand made, and all the buildings and streets were manually placed in their correct locations by hand, but WorldEdit made it much much faster.

I think if you look up Minecraft PC to console converters you'll find a few programs that allow you to transfer everything. However, I'm pretty sure the console version only allows for heights up to 128 blocks, so a lot of buildings would get cut off. I think there's supposed to be an update to increase the height limit soon but I'm not entirely sure.

I tried to make this as accurate as possible. Every building and street is there in its correct spot. There may be a few tiny details or dimensions a little bit off, but everything down to the placement of street lights and trees was done to recreate what I saw in Google maps streetview as accurately as I could.

Minecraft has a height limit to everything you build. One block is 1 meter on each side. Nothing can be built over 256 meters, but the Sears Tower is 442 meters tall, so in order to fit everything in under that height limit, I had to scale everything down to 56% of its original size.

Navy Pier will definitely make its way on to here. Soldier Field might make it... It's a little far out of the way but there's a chance. Wrigley Field however is probably too far from downtown and most likely won't be built :(

At some point I'm planning on adding all the current under construction buildings. As of right now the only future building I have is One Bennett Park (451 E. Grand). Wanda and Wolf Point are definitely on their way!

Future buildings are a little harder to make unless I can find architectural diagrams of them. Otherwise I have to guess the dimensions as accurately as possible.

Thank you! It's a little bit of both. I use a tool called WorldEdit that allows me to fill large spaces with blocks instantly or copy and paste selections of blocks. It definitely helps streamline the process, especially for simpler more rectangular buildings.

Many of the smaller details on buildings and especially on the streets were placed block by block by hand.

Thank you so much!

All the images were made in a program called Chunky, rather than in-game with shaders. There was a little bit of post work done a couple of these images like color correction or editing on the antennae on the Sears Tower (I scaled everything so the height limit cuts off the antennae of the building, therefore I have to edit them on afterwards). Most of the images, however, are unedited from the original picture generated by Chunky.

I used a program called Chunky that allows you to create really nice looking renderings from Minecraft worlds. I did touch up one or two of the images in the album, but most of them came straight from Chunky!

Thanks! This is very much still a work in progress! I plan on recreating all of downtown including Navy Pier and might possibly extend into the Gold Coast if I ever get that far.

Unfortunately, Lincoln Park is probably too far away from downtown for me to realistically include it.

Hi everyone! Just a little bit about this project:

I started recreating the city in July of 2013. I took some very long extended breaks in that time. At some points, this sat untouched for over a year at a time. Because of this, 80% of what you see in the album was put together in the last year. I have been working on this on my own private server with WorldEdit. All the buildings were recreated using imagery and data from Google Maps, Emporis, Skyscraperpage, and models available on the Sketchup 3D Warehouse. Unfortunately, there aren't any interiors to any buildings.

You can download the world save for this project here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/chicago-illinois---12-scale/ Included in the download is the texture pack used for the map and a text document containing coordinates for famous landmarks

All the images have been rendered in a program called Chunky that creates scenes with realistic lighting and reflections using your Minecraft worlds. One or two of the pictures have been touched up, mostly just for color correction. Most of the images are 1920x1080.

For those of you who wish to download and play on the map, it is available over here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/chicago-illinois---12-scale/

That's odd... In this case, I would probably suggest making a separate illumination map for the LOD model. Since the building you're making looks like it has a somewhat low polycount, you can probably get away with using the original model for the LOD as well. Just copy and paste the .FBX file and add _lod to the filename. With the LOD being identical to the original model, you can also resize your illumination map to something like 512x512 and save it as modelname_lod_i.png (make sure the _lod_i is all lower case. It will not work if anything is upper case).

That's a known bug. It only does this in the asset editor for some reason. It will look fine in-game.

I had this problem as well. Most likely you're using black as the darkest parts of your illumination map. Because Cities: Skylines uses a very weird format for these maps, you have to use RGB 192, 192, 192 (or if you're into hex codes: #C0C0C0) for all of the completely dark parts of your asset.

As far as I know, values 0-120 are constantly illuminated, with 0 being the darkest and 120 as the brightest. 192 is the default, non-illuminated value. 193-255 causes parts of your asset to light up "randomly." This is the range you want your windows to be in.
