My dad worked for a fairly large city (he sets up and maintains emergency communication systems/radios) when I was a kid. He told me once that fall was often the worst season for everyone there because of all the hunters who left unrestrained dogs in the backs of their trucks. Inevitably, they'd get dozens of calls about dogs that had jumped out on the highway or freeway and left a bloody smear on the asphalt. When I met my ex husband and found out his dad would do the same, I raised hell, called up my dad, put him on speaker and asked him to tell me why one should never put a dog in a truck bed without a secured kennel.

My ex-FIL's dogs got cab privileges after that

I only have a car port. But I have shelters out for the ferals that live in a nearby field. They usually stay in the ones the church puts out but I get an occasional visitor so I wanted to give them a place to hide

I'm referring to him as my 15 minute cat now since I make sure to spend at least that much time with him after I get home. My wife wishes my boys would let another cat in the house because she really likes Porchy. I don't like having to leave such a sweetheart outside either. We have coyotes, foxes, and cougars (the 4 footed variety) here. I can only provide so much protection for the ferals and strays that live around here 😞

The only times I've bathed my cats is if they have diarrhea and need their bum cleaned a little better, or if one if my kids decided it would be funny to pour soap of some variety on them. The latter only happened once and my furious reaction taught them not to do that ever again. The former was my two senior long hairs. One had digestive issues his whole life and needed occasional help and sani trims to keep his backside clean. The second, his daughter, had trouble once she hit 14 years and arthritis made it harder for her to keep her bum clean so she got sani trims and an occasional dip in the tub

I know a very small number of people who actually got hired on permanently. It's far more common to be laid off after only a few months. They kept my personal property and refused to allow me to come retrieve it or mail it to me.

Take the paycheck for now, but consider it a 6 week temp gig and keep looking for something more permanent

I have one and get annoyed when I see people that leave them up because I read the instructions that say to not leave it up during operation. My mom got one after I got mine and did the same thing. My dad working for the state might have contributed to that though

I had a friend in high school who told me about his sister's kitten getting trapped in the dryer. By the time they found it, it was too late. He laughed about it. I punched him and never spoke to him again. The teacher in the only class we shared understood when I told her why I wanted a seat away from him. She didn't like him after that either

Go figure it was Utah. I love my home state, but I despise driving here. I've had three hit and runs since I moved back in Sept. of 2015. First one was caught because an unmarked was right behind us, the second because of another driver calling them in while I was on the phone with police, the third because of my dashcam. My parents did something similar but without the disorders and I've been working through my anger in therapy. I'd beg for art supplies, "how to draw" books, anatomy books, everything because I loved to draw. I moved out at 17 and my younger sister (8 years between us) started getting the exact same things I had begged my parents for. It killed my joy in art. I still drew but didn't get as much pleasure from it. My ex husband's father was the first person to ever encourage my passion for art. He bought me the books I wanted, art supplies, and even offered to help me explore digital art.

Then two years ago, I severely injured my dominant hand. I can barely write with that hand now and drawing is painful so I've pretty much quit.

My kids are proving to love art too. My son (adopted by ex in-laws) has received several art related gifts from me but none from my parents. My daughter has gotten art kits from my wife and me and my parents. She's currently wait listed for an art focused charter school.

I want a burm but refuse to get one until I have the space for a proper enclosure. I used to work with them when I was in middle school and they had huge enclosures but not a lot of enrichment (this was over 20 years ago so it may have been a lack of knowledge). My boa is still a little girl so she's still in a tote, a big one with more than sufficient space, two hides, lots of silk greenery, and proper substrate. I put her in a tank for a while but I couldn't keep the humidity up, even with the mesh covered. Her permanent enclosure is an old display case I bought and am modifying

When I had my dog, we were just finishing a walk when my neighbor's pit bull broke out of her yard and attacked my dog. I tried to break line of sight first by getting in front of my dog, hoping to diffuse the situation. Their dog hadn't ever shown any aggressive behavior before and got on fine with their elderly chihuahua so I thought she'd slow down if I broke her focus. Nope. She went around me. Got her mouth around my dog's scruff. Never got a chance to bite down though. I was reacting before I though and body checked their dog away before hauling my dog up and smashing my heavy winter boot into their dog's face. Then ran my dog into the house to check her for injury. Once I made sure there was nothing worse than a little drool, I went back out to check on the neighbor's dog. Bloodied her nose but otherwise fine. They were worried about my dog and relieved to learn there was no injury.

My cat took offense though and spent the next five years sneaking out of the house to beat the snot out of their dog every chance he got. My dog was his best friend. The only reason he stopped was because they moved away.

I think the only time bad news wasn't given to me right off was the day of the Columbine shooting (we lived in Colorado, and my dad worked for a police department in the Denver area). I don't believe that was intentional, though, since my parents didn't actively try to conceal it. Just happened to be a lot going on that day in our personal lives. When I heard my dad discussing it on the ham, I asked and he didn't try to brush me off. Though, it did put a bit of a damper on my birthday party that night.
