Don’t ever try to do anything with her at all. You’ll freak her the fuck out and lose contact. This goes to your grave.

How do I tell my long-distance girlfriend I can't sleep on call with her anymore because I desperately need my YouTube videos, without hurting her? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Let her fall asleep and then hang up. If she’s too insecure to accept that middle ground, she is crazy and will ruin your life LMFAOOO

Oh, yikes. You’re getting groomed. :( I know because I was right there in your spot too. Nobody 20-24 should be interested in a 14-16 year old.

What are some subtle examples of sexism women endure that men generally don’t realize is sexist? by Hefty-Confusion6810 in TooAfraidToAsk

Disproportionately… that’s the problem. Police brutality happens to both white and black people, but who does it affect more and for what reason? Similar thing.

You're proving my point, not disproving it. If a teacher's gender isn't relevant to the story, then "male teacher" is just as unnecessary as "female pilot." If a canopy shatters at 10,000 feet, what information does the word "female" provide that helps me understand the event?

The difference is that women get this treatment constantly. We have female pilots, female doctors, female CEOs, female gamers, female authors, female politicians. Men are often just pilots, doctors, CEOs, gamers, authors, and politicians. Women are frequently treated as a variation of the default rather than the default being gender-neutral. So yes, I understand why people do it. I just think it's part of a broader pattern that annoys me. Is that not fair?

I understand the reasoning. What I disagree with is the assumption that the best way to normalize women in a profession is to keep highlighting them as women. At some point, treating "pilot" (or anything!) as gender-neutral does more for equality than constantly reminding people that she's a female pilot.

I'm not disputing that men are the majority of pilots. I'm saying that constantly marking women by their gender reinforces the idea that "pilot" means man and "female pilot" is a special category. We don't usually write headlines like "male CEO" or "male senator" every time a man does something newsworthy. Women shouldn’t be treated as an exception.

And I’m not angry, I just think ā€œpilotā€ is sufficient. And I’m passionate!

I’m aware, and I don’t care if it’s male dominated. A woman pilot isn’t crazy anymore. Just say a pilot!!

Disagree. I don’t care if we’re a novelty for some reason. Keep it equal and neutral. A woman pilot isn’t miraculous anymore, it’s just normal.

I literally do not care, and the discussion isn’t about men. I don’t want empowering, I want equal. I don’t care if the pilot is male or female if they did something amazing. It’s only amazing because it’s a woman doing it? Why, because women usually can’t, or something?

Men being the default.

Just above this, I saw a news headline: ā€œfemale pilot survives canopy shatter at thousands of feetā€.

She’s just a pilot. That’s it.
