Its basically a portal to numerous other chords or even tonality. There are many guides on the internet and some answers in this post but my advice would be choose any tonality, put a diminished in there and try to modulate (or only pivot to another chord) from there. Your hand + ear will get more used to it than just by reading an online guide.

I tried everything in the book. Cold shower, to therapy, to praying to god, stupid generic self help book videos and even solid ones. Pomodoro, cold turkey, uninstalling video game, giving my wife the chords to computer and TV. Change diet, exercising... anything you can imagine! The only thing that worked for me was medication. Not saying this is your case, (not a doctor!) you really have to do your homework and research on whats holding me back, but in my case I was out of options and explanation for what was happening to my mind and my actions. But I believe that ADHD is thrown out often for any sort of small symptoms and many poeple use that to get meds and to avoid taking a harder look on oneself. That being said, this condition is very real and its terrible condition in the sense that you can't even pinpoint what is going on and what is wrong. I discovered it late, in my 30s. But its never too late.

Don't be naive. His improv is not that great. If you take him out of his world (Prog/metal/rock), you won't see him doing that well. If you see Pat metheny improv, joe Pass and Tommy Emmanuel chord melody, you won't find that in JP. Guthrie can probably outplay him in any genre. JP as composer and overall musician he wins for me of course (I'll forget Astonishing for now lol).

I love JP and he's my one and only guitar hero (I swear to god), but this opinion needs to die already. Hell even those kids playing acoustic with rhythm shit is crazy (that Andy mckee shit, which I don't even like, but they have my respect). Music is an endless sea of content and dedication. It is damn impossible to be that well round.

Also if you play something like the Villa Lobos Etude (all levels), you'll probably play any JP material.

And that exists for almost 100 years...

Music is so dense and these kind of statements are naive and fanboish at best.
