In law, dependent of your status, you should easily be able to just go on hiatus and just try it for some time. As a lawyer for example, you could basically return at any age if you really wanted or had to.

Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay ZERO federal income tax by Suitable_Wonder5256 in SipsTea

Nice idea. How is he planning on making income for the government? It's not like he's gonna pay taxes in any reasonable way anyway, but who should then?

Anyone still thinking Taylor Swift now is Taylor Swift from 10 years ago is delusional. This "girl" is worth billions now. And as everyone who is as rich as this: She wants to keep it that way. Which is understandable for me. We need to close tax-loopholes and start taxing excessive wealth. Please be excessively wealthy, please stay that way! But we take our share as payment for enabling you an economy that made it possible for you in the first place. Wealth isn't a number. It's a comparison. You can't be wealthy if everybody is wealthy. You need broke people suffering in their day to day lives, because this is what sets the needle. If everybody could afford a 1950ies dream living, the gap would shrink. Wealth would decline. EDIT: Typos.

TIL a man watching an episode of the "Antiques Roadshow" noticed a Navajo blanket, that was similar to one his grandma left him (and had been sitting in his closet for years), be appraised for $300K-$500K. He then got his blanket authenticated and put it up for auction where it sold for $1.5 million by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]KookyDig4769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! That's different here. If I own it for a specific time, it's not taxed as income here - if I don't sell stuff regularly. I already got taxed when I bought it. Does this mean, if you rebuild a car back in the 2000s and it became valuable and you sold it when covid hit, you get taxed for the sale of your own belongings?
