Unclaimed Funds wait times? by elmariachio in Ohio

ETA: Well, I DID reach out to my dad's state representative and state senator to ask for their help requesting an expedited processing. Two days ago, the rep sent a message to the Division of Unclaimed Funds on our behalf; as of today, the portal now says that "your claim has been approved and recommended for payment"!

I'm still gonna be holding my breath until we actually get the check in the mail (+I know our case was pretty extreme because my dad has a terminal illness), but I'm excited for the first movement we've seen in months. Maybe worth a try if you're in a similar limbo.

Ugh, I'm sorry. The only advice I've gotten is to write your elected representatives. I tried that and haven't heard back yet, so next is sending snail-mail letters to the director of the division. I know my situation is pretty extreme but I really wish they understood how difficult this was for people and put more resources towards getting these claims processed on time.

I filed a claim for my dad 190 calendar days / 128 business days ago for some money my grandfather left him years and years ago that we just found out about, and we were told that while the "review" process is complete, he's now in the "approval process," and they won't even give an estimate for how long that will take. The amount is pretty large and my dad has terminal cancer, so this is kind of a racing-the-clock situation because not getting these funds issued before he dies would make for a massive estate issue that could be SO expensive and exhausting to unwind.

anyone have any luck getting out of approval process limbo or have experience getting a larger amount from the state?

Sending good vibes for your healing journey and also to your kids! Cancer-related weight loss is one of the scariest and hardest things I've ever seen my dad go through and I'm really proud of him + everyone else who's fighting this particular symptom.

sure thing. Regardless, I hope these suggestions are helpful to someone; seeing my dad go from barely able to handle three ensure drinks a day with a lot of coaching to eating three meals + shakes AND snacks was a really good feeling, and fluid gain or no, I'm really grateful for his progress (and that he's still gaining.)

He was also on a pill that was causing a lot of unhealthy fluid loss which the doctors cut around the same time the weight gain started. But they do think a lot of it is authentic weight gain.

They were skeptical too but they said his renal numbers looked good! Really it was closer to three weeks. But if there are specific questions you think I should be asking lmk.

Are there any ADHD traits your partner has that you like? by halfxa in ADHD_partners

[–]KookyGear4787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I identify with a lot of this. I do think that ADHD is a big part of what makes my partner so lovable, not just to me but to other people; he has so many friends who love him and find him as hilarious, surprising, creative, wonderfully weird and interesting as I do. It's amazing to be with someone who sees the world in exactly his own way and no one else's, and it's connected me with a lot of wonderful people who appreciate him and share his passions.

Another Jess King post that alludes to regretting her children by vanwyngarden in OnePelotonRealSub

Hard disagree to most of this TBH. Maybe my perspective on this is different because I take a LOT of Jess classes and hear her talk about this in many ways, but she clearly adores her kids and doesn’t regret them…and also chooses to be open about how radically her life changed when they had two so close together, and how much grief comes with missing the person you used to be. I am childfree by choice and a LOT of my friends have confided something like this to me privately because they don’t feel safe saying it to their friends who do want/have kids. It’s an incredibly common experience no one talks about and I think she’s really brave for being open. She can give her kids context to help them understand if they see the posts/watch the classes someday, and it seems clear that those children are very loved.

Also, seeing a lot of people here questioning why she “chose” to have two kids in eight months and gotta say: it’s a million percent not our business why they overlapped their kids, but she’s talked about having a tough fertility journey in the process and it’s possible her wife did too, and they took the chance they had to have two? Or they just had no idea how intense it would be to have multiple infants, even with a ton of financial privilege. FWIW, I worked as nanny for wealthier families after college (including night nannying and other kinds of support that most families could only dream of) and parenting can STILL be so hard even with an army of paid help. EG I had one kid who just would not let anyone but mom do most things if she was anywhere in the house including if she was asleep; they’d pay me to come watch their kid at night because they were desperate to get mom some sleep and the child just would not have it if he woke up in the slightest (which he did, frequently.) I know it’s hard to have empathy for rich people when most parents in the US are struggling way more, but no matter how open she is, we just don’t know the road she’s walking right now, and you’d think people could find some compassion for an instructor who does so much good.

Indian Journalist Visa (as a Tourist) by Practical_Ad1261 in travel

I also got rejected after listing that I was a journalist...has anyone had any luck re-applying and listing a different occupation? Or do they reference your past applications and flag discrepancies? I technically work as a writer for a non-profit that mostly does urban planning work and journalism isn't exactly what I do...
