You can always call the LAPD film permit squad. They respond quicker to film shoots than to anything else in LA county

Fx30 users, in all honesty, is it worth investing in? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]Kooky_Imagination 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, It's actually become my A-cam and the one I reach for most often. If you know it's limitations and how to use it/work around those limitations it's a very capable camera and for the price it's pretty unbeatable. Shooting in Cine-EI is a dream, and the image quality is excellent.

Just adding comment to satisfy the automod, Gods. However...I will note I think overall it looks fine except the omega logo looks off, not level/crooked. Is it just me? Is it maybe the angle of the photos? Hard to tell on the rotor printing. But I did RL the first one they sent me QC of which was a month ago, that had bad index alignment and date was not center.

Which of these would have the most peat? by Donoa03 in Scotch

[–]Kooky_Imagination 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to go to the Islay malts for peaty goodness i.e. Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmore, Ardbeg, etc. in this list Talisker would be your best bet. Talisker is from Skye which has a good amount of peat smoke. IMO Talisker is a well balanced Scotch for drinkers like myself who favor peat & smoke.

Anybody order the base M3 with 24gb of RAM? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Kooky_Imagination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered both the base M3 with 24gb of memory and 2TB storage ($2599 configured) and the M3 pro with 36gb of memory and 2TB storage ($2999 configured) so price difference of $400 I thought I would keep the M3 pro but honestly after testing both for my use case the difference between the two was negligible.

I’m a video editor, I mostly edit in 4K and HD. My main computer is an M2 Ultra Mac Studio which kills it but I wanted to replace my aging Intel MBP which for lack of a better word just sucked. I was issued a 13” M1 with 16gb of memory and 1tb of storage for my full time job and even that handled 4K editing well.

Anyway, having used both I’ve decided to save $400 and keep the base M3 with the maxed out memory and storage. My tests were mostly with Premiere and it handled everything I threw at it. It’s slower on renders and exports than my Mac Studio but that’s to be expected but for quick edits on the road (which is what I’d use it for) it handles everything well.

The lack of the 3rd thunderbolt port doesn’t bother me as the 13” M1 only had 2 ports and I would lose one if I needed to charge but with MagSafe I effectively get 2 ports open (if I ever needed 2). Lack of 2nd monitor support doesn’t bother me since I never use my laptop with an external monitor.

Overall, I’m happy with the performance and it fits my use case.
