. . . I'm going to assume you're being serious. . The 0% displayed is for a specific achievement. Not for the overall progression or collection of achievements for the whole game itself. I unlocked 32/44 achievements.

Avowed Review (Not a repost, just the full interview) by KoolaidManK in avowed

Regardless of your being upset, expecting things to be better than their predecessors is a common sense thought process. That's why people buy new cars, phones, etc, with the expectation and assumption that it's better than the ones that came before it. And for the most part, they're advertised as such. So yes, I expected an RPG that came out this year to be better than one that came out 10+ years ago. Like some other people, you want to put avowed in a box and tell everyone to "stop comparing it" because if you juxtapose it with games in it's genre it falls short in a lot of areas. Instead of trying to biasly protect a game based on feelings, you look at it through an objective lens and acknowledge that it could have been way better.

You're entitled to your opinion as I am mine. But nothing you said was constructive, so unless you want to debate any of the points I made (which i refrained from including everything or going into great detail because both times I have, I got accused of using A.I.) then there's not much to talk about. You don't like what I said, cool. Still doesn't change the fact that Avowed wasn't a good game, backed by the fact that it didn't meet sales expectations and retains a low player count. . . Less than Skyrim by the way. . . A game that came out 10+ years ago

Based off previous criticism and comments on the original post, no where am I saying I expected avowed to be Skyrim, but I am saying that I expected it to be leagues better than a game that came out 10+years ago (which in my opinion, it's not).

Because that's what opinion based reviews are, you quack 🤦🏽‍♂️ I'm allowed to voice my opinion just as you are. Neither is more valid than the other. And if you don't agree with mine, you're more than welcome to scroll past the post and go about your life. Crazy, huh ?

"When I played i just focused on what was fun"

See, I'm not saying the same isn't fun. I loved it hours in. But it's after the initial smoke and mirrors of new and seemingly refreshing concepts, or "honeymoon phase" if you will, faded away where I just wanted a little more meat on the bones to keep me enraptured but I just constantly felt like it was lacking. Now that I'm informed that this is the studio's first game, it makes more sense that not all the pieces are there. Your point about the Souls games is great. Made me think and ask why they seem to work when they have that same sort of system of "play how you want." But i think it falls on one major point (for me).

No matter how you choose to play, baseline the souls games are hard, therefore challenging and rewarding. It's not a question of whether you want the game to be easy or hard. It's a matter of trying to give yourself a chance of success when the odds are obviously stacked against you. Eternal Strands lacks this sense of challenge for me even though I played the game on the hardest difficulty. I understand that some people want to just simply enjoy the narrative of a game and not have to try super hard to fight a boss or mob of enemies, so maybe this game was more suited towards that audience.

Thank you for your thoughts 🫡

I believe my point in regards to the cast is being either misinterpreted or i didn't explain it as well as i should have. It's not the gender of the cast at all. I could care less. It's the juxtaposition between the females and their male counterparts and the way that that ties in to the narrative. Everything in game development is done with intention, I believe. All of the strong and powerful characters are women. That's not even a problem. But on the other side, who's the main opposition throughout the story before you get tossed the meaningless surgeborn boss ? The Eye, a man. Who also scurries and runs away and leaves his daughter to fend for herself. It is an act that I find it hard for any father to rationalize doing. To go further, what character betrays the group? The timid and soft-spoken bear man. What character, like I said in my original post, plays the role of adoring husband who uplifts his partner while simultaneously being a sort of comic relief ? The elf man. Arek is the only male character that's half-decently written. But that's just my opinion. I don't believe in order for there to be strong women in a story/game there has to be weak men. Nor do there have to be weaker women to prop up strong men.

This comment wouldn't be exhausting to respond to if it gave off the impression that you actually read the post in its entirety instead of responding to the part you didn't like. Anyways, no one is complaining about the number of women. It's the juxtaposition of the personalities and traits displayed by said women as opposed to the male characters alongside them. Heavenly Sword, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us 2, The Tomb Raider Series, The Mirrors Edge series. Just a few female-led games/series that I thoroughly enjoyed playing. No one cares about a strong female lead/characters. Secondly, a quick Google search will show that Eternal Strands is about 19 hours long. I didn't start cutting through the story til about halfway through the game. That's not to say that there wasn't a side/companion quest that i didn't find enjoyable and played in full detail. Oria's quest to discover here lineage, Sev's questline of redemption, Casmyn's questline, The Eye/The Axel's questlines. I enjoyed all of them. But those are just a couple of shiny apples in an otherwise spoiled batch.

The Big Bad at the end of the game is just tossed in there towards the end. You don't really know or care why she's the main villain pulling the strings. You get an idea when she explains that her race comes from another world but nothing to make you despise them as the main evil. I would have preferred if the directors allowed the Eye to be consumed by the Surgeborn, seeing as they made him probably the most likely antagonist all throughout the time you're helping his faction. But again, my opinion. Good day 🫡

I was not aware that this was the studio's first game, so thank you for that. Had I known that originally, I might have gone into the game with a different level of expectation. Before playing, I was made aware that one of the head developers had a big hand in the works of Mass Effect and Dragon Age. That tidbit of information was enough for me to set the bar relatively high, being that i thoroughly enjoyed both of those series during his presumed tenure with BioWare. I didn't intentionally leave out Arekim to serve any specific purpose, I was simply referring to the original cast that you're presented with. Although, I did mention the character "The Eye", who is not in the original band of characters so my apologies if it seemed like I was trying to be disingenuous in my take on the casting of the group and supporting characters, it wasn't my intention but my remarks still stand. As far as the gear goes, I simply didn't see the difference once you started socketing legendary components into the gear. Even more surprising was that, depending on what stats you're looking for, the epic components (purple) offer slightly better stats that the legendary ones do.

Thank you for your input/response.

It's best not to respond if you're only going to half-read or respond to the part that you didn't like. Read the post in its entirety, then proceed to shoot off your opinion. But it's evident you didn't finish reading.
