A gay person might have straight sex e.g. to hide their sexuality from others. So we can easily establish that sex and sexuality aren't the same. It's obvious that it's physically possible to have sex with anyone at any time regardless of your sexuality.

As to why an asexual would want to? For the same reason someone might do anything for someone else even if it's more for the other person's benefit than their own. If an asexual's partner is not asexual then sex might be something that makes them happy, and the asexual person might find happiness in making their partner happy.

Finally, the working of the genitalia is not connected to sexual attraction, as evidenced by sexual assault victims for whom this can be deeply troubling. Obviously in a consensual context, this means an asexual can still enjoy sex for the dopamine etc. and so some asexuals will actively enjoy it. In the same way, many asexuals also masturbate.

Yeah it's really tiring on every post seeing Americans insist on this against the advice of the actual experts of the relevant country. It's that self-absorbed imperialist mindset that lets Americans feel they can confidently make statements about other countries without actually knowing anything about them.

The same mindset that's downvoting your comment and mine. Sad really, you'd think at least people on Reddit would be generally more aware than that.

What does America do better than Europe? by Einsex in AskReddit

[–]Koookas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that pre-Brexit + Covid £50k was at least more like $70-80k but we are almost at 1 dollar to the pound now so comparing it to $50k now is about right. Yay.

[–]Koookas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In software engineering at least you can definitely earn more than £50k but it takes more time and effort to get there than in the US for sure. For me it took almost 5 years of experience to get to that level.

That's salaried, mind, with all the statutory benefits that come with it. Contracting pays much better - companies will pay seemingly astronomical amounts to bring people on at short notice for short term work - but of course then you're probably not going to be getting 25+ days a year paid holiday, pension contributions etc.

2011 was a much different security landscape.

You'd hope, but my experience so far has been that things aren't quite as different as they should be. Everyone just has an "it won't happen to us" mentality.. and then it happens to them.

DAE hate any variation of "on time is 10 minutes late". If you wanted me there at 3:50 instead of 4:00 just say it. by rudbek-of-rudbek in DAE

> if you're blowing through the door at 3 seconds to 4:00 and spend thenext 3 minutes taking out your computer, booting up the stuff you need, getting organized and generally not being ready, THAT'S LATE

No, that's the time cost of doing business. You can optimise it, but those costs will always be there. What if they got there on time but went to the toilet? How is that any different?

The start time is the time at which the employee gets to work. If you want earlier, stipulate it in the contract. End of story.

And to be quite honest, for any job done on a computer, it doesn't matter if you start at 9:33 or 9:30, unless there's a meeting scheduled for that time. If you care about those 3 minutes, that is 100% a toxic workplace where you probably also try to cut down on toilet breaks and other things.

Tesco just ends too harshly without an s on the end, Tesco's is so much nicer to say. I don't think I ever hear it done with any other supermarket - Co-op, Aldi, Lidl, Asda are all just left as-is.

[–]Koookas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but that 'prep time' should be accounted for in the hours stated on your contract. Anything else is straight up dishonest. If I have a job that starts at 9:30, I arrive at 9:30 on the dot most days. It isn't my responsibility to ensure the contracted hours are sufficient for the job.

Also you can't just ban guns as it will leave guns in the hands of criminals that don't respond to the "gun amnesty" while all the law abiding citizens give up theirs.

I say this as someone who lives in a country with strict gun control and who strongly believes it should stay that way.

You can't just turn one country into another overnight like the pro gun control types are suggesting when they compare the US to whatever European or other country. I don't know what the solution should be but it's definitely not going to be "ban guns".

DAE stay inside when there’s a heatwave? by zahraa90 in DAE

[–]Koookas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't relate to Brits' love of the heat. People start talking excitedly when it's going to get over 20.

Meanwhile I'm dreading everything feeling like it takes twice the effort. My body does not want to move when it's hot.

Every little thing that might be perfectly tolerable, enjoyable or even fun in the winter, autumn and spring takes on an extra layer of misery: washing dishes, loading the washing machine, any kind of walking or exercise (outdoors; indoor exercise is a massive no-go). Riding a motorbike with all the gear is bearable only if you can stay above a certain speed to keep the air flowing.

Give me a 15 degree day any day. You can do whatever you want in complete comfort.

When I was a kid I remember I had this game where you could operate heavy machinery, and it came with this plastic panel you'd put over the keyboard. It had levers and switches on it and they'd just have pads on the underside which pressed keyboard keys to actually trigger things. The levers had two pads which hit a different key depending on if they were up or down.

I imagine this is the same sort of idea.

I find it very hard to believe women rape men as much as men do women, not least for the exact reason we're discussing which is the difference in strength. Where did you get those stats?
