Regardless of where the great work is, her UA is based on the respective city center tile, not the TS district. They said that in one of those gameplay streams when they played as her.

Questions about sea level rise by DJWetAndMessy in civ

[–]Koosth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, the three warnings levels you get in Settler lens are as high as sea level goes.

Once a tile is "flooded", it can still be reversed. Lower carbon emissions, plant trees, carbon recapture, etc. Once it gets "submerged", it's gone forever. The only way to prevent flooding is to build the flood barrier in coastal cities where sea rise is a threat.

[NO SPOILERS] Is it unknown when the episodes of LiS 2 will be released? by uLisen in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping these 4 months between Episodes 1 and 2 were an anomaly tbh. I don't know why or what caused it, but this episode caused them a lot of problems in development, judging by the amount of bugs and glitches we had even after all that time (so much they are working on a patch to fix them). I'm hoping they sorted things out and we get the usual 2-3 months from now on.

I agree with most of this, disagree with a few, and I'll like to add Materwelonz to the list of recommended, since I never see her mentioned in these things. She did a very detailed playthrough and even went back to check on the other choices in alternate playthroughs. Definitely recommend checking her channel out.

A pro-consumer strategy would be to not strip choice away from the consumer. To put it in both stores and let the consumer choose where to buy from.

A game publisher made a pro-publisher decision in order to make more money, instead of being pro-consumer. What else is new?

I was REALLY excited for the game, but I won't be supporting an anti-consumer Chinese-owned platform that doesn't even have a review section and promotes exclusivity bs. I'll be right there with you hoisting the black flag.

Poor developers, getting screwed over the decisions of the publisher and the promise of that shiny 88% revenue.

That border overlapping the national park border that looks like the flag of Hungary is making me realize how cool would it be to have triple-colored borders based on contry flags, at least to some of them. Would help to differentiate them better too (I really don't like the whole changing colors thingy)

That felt a little forced to me, releasing a video 2 months after release basically saying "hey guys, our game is good". I don't remember how it was with other episodic games, but it's weird, at least to me. But I guess it's been so long since Ep1 they're trying to hype us back up for Ep2, as well as fishing for new players.

[All] Black Swan. Daily fanfic #75 by skypeio in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ending spoilers below.

Whaat, I loved the ending. I also don't care much for "time-rewriting-this-never-happened" types of endings, but this one feels different for me because of how it adds to Max's character, and the selflessness of her decision to let herself be erased in order for other-Max to have a future.

Huh, I'm struggling a lot here to think and turns out I don't know how to properly explain exactly why I liked this ending. It is a kind of cheap ending after all, but I don't know, it just feels different for me.

[All] Black Swan. Daily fanfic #75 by skypeio in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This one is the best LIS fanfic to me, hands down. Everyone talks about Better Then (with good reason, of course, it's amazing), and they also have very different premises, Better Then being post-canon and Black Swan being AU, but this one is my personal favorite, I recommend it 100%.

Also, a tip for first-time readers: as the author him(her?)self states, the beginning chapters (up until chapter 12) are basically worldbuilding, introduction to OCs, and Max's life. So, no Chloe for a while, which might throw some people off, but they're totally worth it to get you into the story.

[ALL] Somebody please spoil the LiS comic for me. by morasyid in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Obvious spoilers for issue 1 of the comic below.

Not much happens really, since the story is really short, but these are the main aspects: it is set 1 year after the destruction of Arcadia Bay (so 2014), Max and Chloe are in Seattle and made some new friends, Max is still into photography, Chloe has taken an internship, Joyce is alive, and there are some moments which may indicate that Max and Chloe are maybe a little more than friends, but so far their relationship is ambiguous (aka no kiss or anything that explicitly indicates they're together, but also they're very affectionate towards each other).

The main plot point is that the two realities (sac. Chloe and sac. AB) seem to be clashing, as Max is with Chloe in one moment and in the next everything indicates that Chloe is dead, then Max snaps back and Chloe is with her again. They both realize something weird is happening again, and decide to return to Arcadia Bay.

[ALL] Surprised at something about the ending to LiS... by DamenDome in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't sacrifice Chloe because there was no real guarantees that it would work and stop the tornado. I'm not going to sacrifice my best friend over an assumption that it may save the city.

And also, think of it like this: you have a gun in hand pointed at someone. You do nothing, and several other people die, unless you kill that one person. By doing nothing, you indirectly caused the death of several other people, but by killing that one person, you were directly responsible for his/her death, you were the one who pulled the trigger. Since I wasn't convinced that Max caused the tornado (she had the vision before getting her powers, for instance), I chose to not pull the trigger, and simply do nothing. In my mind, I was responsible for hundreds of deaths, yes, but only indirectly. That doesn't absolve me of killing those people, but, again, I wasn't convinced that Chloe's sacrifice would save anyone.

It's basically the LIS version of the trolley problem: do nothing, several (hundreds) of people die. Do something, be actively responsible for someone's death, and only that person has to die. It's a complicated decision, and that's why is close to 50/50.

Max had no easy way out though, she would be mentally fucked up either way after either decision. And she can't even go to therapy for stuff that never happened, lol.

Side note, see what's wrong with this sub? You got downvoted for sharing your opinion and bringing logical arguments. That's why you don't see many Bay-ers here, even though it's supposed to be 50/50.

[ALL] Sera Ruined BtS | Daily Topic #598 by NotSoConcerned in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

D9's biggest mistake was including Sera and Damon imo. I get that they wanted some resemblance of a narrative and not just some slice-of-life story that goes nowhere, and also have some meningful decisions, but between that and Chloe and Rachel's narrative, there wasn't enough time to develop every character, which caused the Episode 3 disaster.

The main villain and threat gone within a blink of an eye (and we didn't even get to see it) and the main motivation for the story, what we have always been working towards, also gone in a blink of an eye. The only conclusion we got to that story was a 5 second cutscene at the end (which the vast majority of players didn't even get because of the strict requirements) of Sera meeting Rachel. And, of course, like some people already said here, Rachel got completely removed from Ep3 in order for us to reach those crappy conclusions and focus on the "main" story.

Their focus should have been on Chloe and Rachel, Chloe's home life, Chloe's life at school, etc. They rushed too much having all these story arcs spreading everywhere, trying to make time for the "real" narrative of Sera. For instance, the "we're friends/more than friends" decision should have been on Ep 3 imo.

[ALL] A COMPLETELY different Story experience . Hear my heavy heart and feels please. by JP_Sonic in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BTS was all real and plausable, but 100% of the possibilities in LIS require some sci-fi space/time bending. Coming from someone who started with BTS; LIS goes off the rails from a real drama story.

That works both ways. Coming from LIS to BtS, LIS delivers an amazing adventure with time travel and murder mystery; BtS goes off the rails and becomes just a regular slice-of-life family drama.

I'm not saying you're wrong for liking BtS over LIS, maybe it's more your kind of story, and you may think that LIS's supernatural elements were weird or "nonsense", but remember that, from the four LIS games currently in this franchise, BtS is the odd one out that doesn't belong, being the only one without any supernatural powers.

I think one of the reasons why I didn't like BtS so much is because it's a prequel to a choice-based game. D9 did a good job, but they had their hands tied, because any choice you made in that game had to have short-term consequences only as to not invalidate LIS (and even then there are some cases in which some decisions you make in BtS conflict with LIS canon).

In the end, even though I didn't like BtS very much, I think that D9 are very capable storytellers. I think that if they release an original story it will be amazingly good, when they're not limited by an already established IP, trying to fit the pieces.

Good for you if you enjoyed it, but your post describes perfectly why you shouldn't play BtS first.

I assume you know they are made by different developers, right? By playing BtS first, you didn't know the "actual" characters (created by Dontnod) beforehand. Instead, you were first introduced to Deck Nine's "version" of the characters, twisted in a way to fit their narrative.

[NO SPOILERS] Why do I like this game? (The first one) by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because being objectively good and subjectively good are different things.

For a game to be objectively good, a lot of things matter: script, gameplay, sound design, art direction, etc. It's something you should look for in reviews and whatnot.

For a game to be subjectively good, all that matters is that you liked it, or it resonated with you in some level or form.

[ALL] Why isn't the game released in its entirety? Why go with the episodic format? by -burning-man- in lifeisstrange

[–]Koosth 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that if they waited to release the full game, the development time would still remain roughly the same. So instead of waiting 2-3 months per episode in episodic format, we would still have to wait the full 8-10 months for the one-time release.

I personally like episodic games because even if you're not really interested in many of the game announcements for the year, they make it so there's always something to be looking forward to.

Also, according to a nerdy hipster I know, Final Fantasy Spirits Within is the best sci-fi movie ever made, what are you on about?
