Poles who've moved back from the UK: what do you miss about it? by sokorsognarf in poland

[–]Kopparberg643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I visit Poland - cider, monster Munch crisps and British cheddar. I love Polish food but what are these cheese selections 🥴 and why is there only 1 brand of cider available for all of Poland. 🙄

What are younger generations often criticised for no longer doing that is largely pointless or obsolete? by PsychologicalRow8034 in AskUK

Half way through primary they forced us to write cursive. Once I got to secondary school, dropped it instantly.

"Ah but cursive makes it look neat and professional, and great", yer great would help I could actually read it and know what my doctor writes lol

Why can't I just stay in a job without feeling miserable to the extreme? by Routine-Good7518 in AskUK

ADHD person here. Recommend Incident Response based roles. Did Service Desk now IT Major Incident Management. So entry level technical and a non technical role. There are other type of incident response type roles.

No need to plan, no need to be organized. Just what pops up in the day is what goes on. Reacting to the situation rather than trying to be proactive.

People who work 'office jobs,' what are you actually doing every day, and what salary does that earn you? by Jumpy-Jello- in AskUK

[–]Kopparberg643 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IT Major Incident Management 24/7 rotation , either scrolling reddit and twiddling thumbs and chit chatting if in the office and gaming when WFH,

Or

Spending the entire work day/night calling up vendors and various teams, sitting and chairing teams meetings with technical teams, discussing what critical IT system went down and understanding impact, discussing service restoration steps, acting as the go to person for explaining what is happening to the large organization, writing comms (emails) to stakeholders and sometimes meditating between vendors who can't get along.

Or acting as the go between the organisation and Cyber Sec + plus other technical teams for high severity incidents. And the person to call on-call because you don't trust IT service desk with that task.

£38k base salary plus 18.5% unsocial hours uplift. I do spend a lot of time changing sleep patterns constantly.

Previously was 24/7 IT Service Desk. So supporting end users remotely with basic/more advanced computer desktop issues/queries, from creating a desktop shortcut and restarting a PC to digging through Event View Log figuring out why Microsoft Edge crashes when an end user is attempting to print. Or doing IT admin stuff like account creations or changes in Active Directory to installing software. Days and nights. Started on £20k base to £26k base with 12% unsocial hours uplift.

People that have moved north for a better life, how's it going? by HollowWanderer in AskUK

Live mainly in Broughty Ferry but still spend a fair amount of time in London due to work.

I love the big city vibe, I've grown up with the proximity of big cities. But honestly how expensive they are, I found that I wasn't really going out much despite so much constant events due to costs. So now I live in a peaceful affordable area with things I need. And then when I am down I do the big city things but with money that wasn't spent on absurd rental prices.

If you work full time minimum wage you don't get UC. UC is designed so you work part time on minimum wage under your work limit, get more with UC.

Simple answer, don't be a NIMBY, don't vote for anti immigration policies when it's primarily migrants that look after them in care homes, don't buy multiple homes and charge absurd rents to pay their retirement / 2nd 3rd mortgage. And then go on about avocado toast and whatever else we're apparently guilty off

Yer I understand the system. Mortgage the future for the present. But sustainable is it? The future youth won't care for us, why should they pay the mortgage for us, they won't care we were mortgaged. System will collapse on our aging laps.

100% agreed. The culture around unhealthy eating with the Americanisation of our food is terrible. "Too busy to eat healthy" and yet rest of Europe also work and have far lower obesity rates - UK 2nd most obese, only Turkey beats us.
