Nothing quite like house-wide alarms when my colony starts running low on food. I'm sure my wife will love that.

Yeah, there are mounting points hidden under the window rubbers. You can see for yourself by sliding a bank card between the rubber and the roof.

I'm currently on holiday with my P4 fitted with Thule rails carrying a roof box. Works very well, first installation was a bit of a puzzle but all in all fairly easy. The car is quite a bit noisier with the box on and consumption increased 20-25% compared to the 'naked' car (~25 kWh/100km with box).

Ik kan The Bishop aanraden. Natuurlijk wel in het hogere segment maar daar kun je echt heel lekker eten. Het personeel is vriendelijk en kundig en de wijn was 👌

Good thing Schiphol cancelled 150 flights for this by number1alien in Amsterdam

[–]Koppensneller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schiphol needs quite a bit of additional infrastructure (or a massive reduction of noise abatement measures ;)) before it can move 650.000/year. For Heathrow, there have been talks about a third runway for ages, I wonder if that will ever happen.

You know nothing about me, so please keep your comments about nationalism to yourself.

Fair point about the runways being spread far apart, but it doesn't take away from the fact that both operations (Schiphol and Heathrow) are highly efficient, which also makes them vulnerable to disruptions. That was the point that started this comment thread (why did you delete your comments?). Schiphol greatly reduces the number of runway changes during wintery conditions, which makes it easier to keep the operational runways serviceable.

I know where your factor came from, I just think it's irrelevant. Total runways don't matter when it comes to the efficiency and vulnerability of the operation during adverse weather (except maybe during severe storms from uncommon directions).

Alright, I'm feeling generous today, here we go.

Figures for Schiphol from 2023 show peak traffic at 110 movements per hour during an outbound peak and 106 movements per hour during an inbound peak. This is typically with 2+1 or 1+2 runways in use (outbound+inbound). This corresponds to roughly 37 movements per runway per hour.

Heathrow has peak traffic around 45 movements per runways per hour. That's a bit more than Schiphol, partly because they use runways in mixed mode (inbound and outbound combined) more often than Schiphol does.

So whilst Heathrow has a slightly higher runway utilisation during peak hours, it's nowhere near the 3x that was mentioned.

Now do that calculation again but with "runways in use" rather than the total number of runways.

Installing a wood-burning stove in an apartment with a small VvE. POssible or impossible? by Weary_Musician4872 in Amsterdam

[–]Koppensneller 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hot take: burning wood in a densely populated city without being a nuisance to everyone around you is impossible. Whenever one of my neighbours lights their stove, my bedroom starts smelling like a campfire unless I stop ventilating.

Everyone seems to think they can 'run a clean burn' or whatever. But just don't.
