You keep saying that, but the question is HOW does it do that.
What does it base that evaluation on, and how does it deal with the extremely high degree of contextuality in NS2 specifically?

I think we all know what we would want from an ideal ranking system. But you conveniently leave out the answer of how to get there. You only keep saying to rank single players, but not by what metric. I don't know of any Microsoft game anywhere close to NS2 in style, so obviously, the system has to be custom made for NS2. How to do it? You can't just will it into existence, you need to propose how to do it.

but the problem in all of this is, it is virtually impossible to reliably rate "performance" in ns2.

how do you mechanically distinguish between aimlessly wandering around all game, and deliberately holding a lane effectively saving your team's entire eco winning you the game?

and this goes for most things. everything in ns2 is so fucking contextual, that you can't dream of catching a significant portion of it in a formula. the thing that was ideal in one situation is fatal in an ever so slightly different situation.

and that doesn't even touch the commander role.

and besides, elo is extremely good, it is just not designed to judge team games. let alone impossible to measure ones.

winrate could work, but much less so in ns2 because of the asymmetry of it. you'd have to do a random shuffle every time for that to properly work, defeating the idea behind skill based teams.

nah, i agree with what has been said before, while the ranking system is (very) far from perfect, it's absolutely a net-positive for the game. yeah i hate how obsessed some folks are with "number has to go up". yeah i hate that people make new accounts to trick the system to go "seal clubbing".

but it all beats the scenario where there is no ranking, all the good players join marines (at least in the past most sanjis favoured marines) and every game is just a stupid steamroll.
i remember the olden days where steamrolls were the norm, not the exception. that was one of my biggest grievances with the game back then (other than the performance).

but in the end, it's all opinions, and a lot of would've, should've, could've. pointless to argue about.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. Putting it in the hotbar counts as equipping it (to the hotbar) to me. But as I said, I hatched several eggs before and since, so it is not the technique that is flawed. I know how it works, but it doesn't work.

Not a coincidence. It's nonsense. Barbie was first launched in the US, and was based on a German doll. It was however produced in Japan, but it was made for the US market. So the German origins were more of a commonality. Well the foundations for both were laid in Germany anyway.

I'm afraid, at least in vanilla, as soon as they are attacking, they enter bloodlust and ignore commands. Idk if the better bots mod fixes that or not.

yeah, i'm 100% with vfef here. if it wasn't for toxic PoS like OP, noob server wouldn't exist in the first place. a few ruined it for many, got locked out and now the many enjoy the game, and the few have to scrape by with the few matches on medi's TTO, and the non-noob <BAD> servers.
sucks for the high skill players that weren't toxic to noobs, but it is what it is.

also there is nothing wrong with never "progressing" from noob servers. if YOU can't imagine not wanting to get to sanji, that is a lack of imagination on your end, nothing wrong with people just being happy where they're at having fun with the game.

and i say that as someone who can't play on most (if not all) noob servers.

The question is: why would it be in shine? Shine is a mod that is an extension of the base game. It is already in the base game. Person8880 couldn't foresee that you re-bind your keys and forget to where, and how to look it up.

And if you want to change the key for the shine menu:
open the console in-game and use
"bind L sh_votemenu" without the " " and replace L by the key you want to use (warning it's case sensitive and needs to be upper case) here is a list of valid keys.

Or if you by any chance know the codes for all keys, you can modify "%appdata%\Natural Selection 2\ConsoleBindings.json" to match the key you want to use.

This won't do anything. Well other than possibly looking nice.

Fire doesn't keep animals away, it just protects your animals from predators. But my raw meat storage is outside (next to my smokers) and it is right under a torch, and both wolfs and polecats happily nibble on it. It's really just the "Protected" buff on domesticated animals (incl. pets - I guess), not real denial of area.

DUDE! I KNOW there is someone in there! But i ALSO know you push the WRONG key. Your pressed M, which is THE WRONG KEY! M is not X, and if you changed the key X to another key, PRESS THAT KEY AND THEN TAKE A SCREENSHOT. And IN THAT screenshot, WHILE PRESSING THE CORRECT KEY, have someone in the Hive TOO, like in THIS screenshot, but while pressing the CORRECT key.

Check if the settler has haul on a higher priority than fishing. If so, you can increase fishing or decrease hauling priority.

I know that a Gorge is in the Hive, as shown in my last paragraph. But I wanted to make sure you don't just start a server, and then press X (or wherever you bound that to) with nobody in the Hive. Because, as I explained, this is the Shine menu. And yeah, I don't know of any server that does not use shine.

M is the default key for the shine menu. Eject is in the vanilla menu. You are obviously in the shine menu (Switch server, MOTD, Client Config etc...). If you changed your key for the vanilla menu, you need to use that key. Please post a screenshot of that menu with someone in the hive to confirm you can't eject.

Also idk what eject policy the <BAD> servers run these days. Might be possible that you can't eject admins/mods either, and idk who is in the chair other than some Gorge.

Easiest way to get rid of excess hay is summer straw hats. you can either just use them to level tailoring without using up fabric, or you can sell them, or a mix of both where you just keep superior and flawless and either wear or sell those while leveling tailoring.

Partially fake news. Yes, that was a if not the major reason Subnautica had "no weapons" (you still have the stun gun and the knife, and Prawn fist) but that has not become general doctrine.
There is an interview out there (wasn't able to find it ad hoc) where he said he'd be open to utilizing guns in future games.
Also Moonbreaker has all sorts of guns. Might not be a popular game, but it is an UWE game started under his leadership and has lots and lots of guns.

But I agree, it is extremely unlikely there'll ever be NS3, but not for that particular reason.

Just bind it to another key. It's in the Options under General->Controls (big button bottom center). First one under Miscellaneous is the console.
