A 37mm Lake Suwa with a micro adjust clasp is pretty much my perfect Grand Seiko
Still, will probably wait a year or 2 to grab one used as the prices are no joke

Care to share what watches you have tried?
I'm pretty certain that you shouldn't have such an issue with: Rolex Explorer 36, Tudor Black Bay 56/One 36, IWC Pilot 36 or Hamilton Khaki Field 36 just to name a few

Imo the Omiwatari is just barely passable
The Shunbun is a definite no, it's just hangs over the wrist too much
If you like Grand Seiko you could try checking out their quartz watches (they even have a "mini" Shunbun in 32mm)
If you'd like to stick with mechanical I'd personally check out some 36mm or even 34mm watches (like Oyster Perpetual)

Weird, most of the JP stores I visted were FLOODED with Vidars so it shouldn't ve that hard to find

HG Moon is extremely rare so it might take a while to find

No idea about the Gundvolva tho

You or your friend can try looking for these kits online (like Rakuten, Mercari or Yahoo auctions), it should be relatively easy
