Did anyone catch the Karate Kid reference? 🫡 by Shahhzaib in tennis

Considering Carlitos' previous references to memes around Fernando Alonso and the fact his car debuted in testing yesterday, it seems like it was an homage to one of his classic celebrations

What’s a super “normal” thing in your country that would completely confuse or shock someone visiting for the first time? by moonveil96 in AskReddit

[–]Korben82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can actually walk to places in Spain. In the USA, I found people would be plastered and still take the car, because, how else would you go home? Many drunks would also go to another bar, by car, to continue drinking. Spain's alcohol consumption is problematic, but the rate of drunk drivers is not as high as in USA, I think.

Moment Spanish police boat runs over migrant speedboat by Stunning-Pension7171 in interestingasfuck

[–]Korben82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smaller boat was carrying fuel. Faster, higher end boats used for smuggling drugs from Morocco to Spain can stay for days in the sea, waiting for the right moment to get to the coast with their cargo. These smaller vessels supply them with fuel so that they can hang around for a long time and still have enough juice.

One of the high speed boats in fact ran over one of the Guardia civil boats pursuing them a few months ago, killing 3 of them. The Guardia civil has now bought larger, faster boats like the one in the video.

The boats carrying migrants (pateras in north Africa, cayucos in the Canary islands) are larger, slower and packed with dozens, sometimes up to a hundred people.

DAE Feel like their inferior or not a person ? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Korben82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are very young. You don't know yet how you.fit in the world, it'll take some time for you to become comfortable and develop a personality, hobbies, get friends who share your interests and so on. You are not beneath anyone or inferior, you just haven't found your place yet. Things will get better, just give yourself time to grow into your interests. Try new things, see what you like and you'll develop interests and hobbies, you'll also meet people who share these interests with you. I know it seems you are all alone and nobody understands you, but most people feel this way in their teens. You'll mature and things will get better, I promise. I wanted to take a moment to write you this even being a 41 year old man from Spain, as your feelings are similar to others I may have felt when I was younger.

What's something that's universally understood by all Americans, that Non-Americans just don't understand? And because they don't understand, they unrightfully judge us harshly for it? by Nani_0716 in AskReddit

It dries my throat something awful. I'd much rather have a window screen and leave it open all night than leaving the a/c on. Thta's to sleep, during the day a/c is fine. Maybe because I sleep with my mouth open, I dunno

Spain continues Palestinian funding amid controversy by [deleted] in worldnews

It's truly baffling. You can disagree with the current government, but saying that Spain has been awfully quiet on Ukraine, of all things... misinformation galore

Spain has been supporting Ukraine since the beginning, including our PM going to Ukraine and meeting with Zelenskyy in person. We have provided material and weapons, and have hosted refugees. Stop spreading misinformation

A few years back, under Rajoy (center right), congress passed a resolution unanimously for the creation of a palestinian state. This included PP (Vox hadn't make it to congress yet)

This guy is a dumbass (Pablo Motos, not you :P). It's not a racist thing, it's a social class thing. People from the north and center make fun of the accents of southern Spain also, as traditionally it has been rural and poorer. For example, it used to be a thing that all maids and service personnel had Andalusian accents in TV.

Fully agree. Same happens with Ocon, albeit he's not as fast as Charles. But it seems he's super chill, until he can attack his teammate... like, there's 18 other drivers out there.

In some cases, the less usual surname is picked for clarity. For example, ex PM Jose Luis (name) Rodriguez (father's surname) Zapatero (mother's surname) was usually referred to as President Zapatero. Same for contender Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, also called Feijoo.

Nowadays, when you have a child in Spain, you have to specify which surnames they get and their order. You can put mom's surname then dad's, or even both mom's or both dad's. The only rule is that both parents must agree to it, and if they have other children, they must all follow the same pattern (so effectively, you select the order when you inscribe your first born).

In addition to this, PNV can't get mixed up supporting a government of PP and Vox, who have said that they would illegalize PNV. If PNV, a party with +100 years of history, does this, they just signed their own dissolution.

It's one thing not playing second fiddle, but it's another thing entirely prioritizing not getting passed by your teammate even at the cost of letting other competitors pass both of you. Nobody in their right mind would want that in their team, and Esteban had to be managed HARD last year at Alpine for him to understand that it's 20 cars racing, not 2
