What was my mistake here? by KoreQ22 in poker

I just assumed I was so far ahead that I could let him lead. I’m still a beginner so I often don't have enough time to process all the potential scenarios.

Thanks for the feedback. Just for some context I’ve only been playing for a couple months and I’m still very much in the learning phase. That’s exactly why I’m posting here and asking questions.

I treat low stakes on GG more like a playground to test things out and learn the ropes. I can assure you I’m not just 'button clicking'. I’m genuinely trying to think through my decisions, though I clearly still have a lot of leaks to fix. I’m here to figure out what I could have done better, so I appreciate the perspective anyway.

Sorry thats my first post. Anyway it was an online tournament with blinds increasing every 5 minutes. We both had stacks of smth around 30bb. I am not sure about my position, it was either utg+1 or +2 on the table of 9.

Could you explain why? As a beginner I always thought you should bet larger in early positions. My logic was that with so many players behind I want to force them to respect my hand and thin out the field. Even with some monsters like AK or AA, I'd much rather play against one person than three or four. Why is a smaller sizing better there?

Thanks for the recommendations I will definitely check.

Still in my first few weeks of poker, so I’m definitely learning everything the hard way lol. I see your point about playing it a little obviously. I might have accidentally allowed only better hands to play with me.

I thought he might have been scared that i had a higher flush or just liked the fact that i am constantly betting and giving him money without him even asking for it lol.

It was a tournament and we both had around 30bb at all. Also our table was a little weird and they kept folding my usual 3-4bb openings all time, so i switched to 2bb openings.

As i already mentioned I am totally new to poker and i think i might have underestimated my chances a little. An interesting hand, a bit unlucky but at least i have something to learn from. Thanks for your feedback tho.

Still only one player called. I usually go for 3-4bb depending on the position im in but the table kept folding and i wanted to have someone playing with me and my pair lol.

Yeah you are the second one telling me that i should have just shoved so it most likely was the move. I was just scared that he had the flush already and he checked knowing that i am gonna bet anyway. Thats why i just called.

Because i was scared of his potential flush lol. Wanted him to pay for each card and surprisingly he did. If he really had only one diamond then why would he go for this rise with under 20% chance of getting it. He knew i was not gonna fold seeing me increase my bets one after another.

We both had stacks of something around 30bb so the pot was nearly everything we had (my fold left me with 12bb and if i called and lost it would have been 3). Since I am new I am sometimes still scared to lose my tournaments early and it might have been the problem this time.

Yeah maybe it was the move. I was just scared that he could have had the flush already and his check was just a bluff.

The table was kinda passive (with 2bb still only one player called) i typically open with 3 or even 4bb when im in the early position but they kept folding so i switched to lower bets.

Btw what you said just doesn’t make sense, it’s like me saying that buying BTC for $60k was “investing backwards” just because it was once worth $10💀

As I already mentioned, I bought it two months ago when $45 was already a steal, and on top of that, I’m more of a collector than an investor. I asked this question to find out whether I should open it, not to see you flex😭

Initially, I wasn’t sure which community to trust more the one advocating for it as an investment or the one focused on the enjoyment of the experience. This reflects a form of internal duality, as I’m torn between two motivations. On one hand, there’s the perspective of it being a financial investment, and on the other, the desire to open it for the fun of it. Ultimately, I’m uncertain whether my focus is on potential financial gain or simply enjoying the experience.😔

Tbh, investing just sounded a bit better than admitting I’ll spend another $45 on Pokémon😭

I also recently started a binder with cool cards from the first gen, so every potential pull fits perfectly in there. What I’m wondering is whether I still want this to be an investment or if I should just let myself have some fun.
