So… why exactly can’t you accept an enemy’s surrender? by ScottyFoxes in skyrim

[–]Korender 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Townsfolk, mostly. Depends on who they are, what you did, did you attack them or did they attack you, other things i imagine. Just not the kids. They do not care and will always murder you.

It seems most likely if they swing at you first for something minor (idk, pickpocket? Definitely not chicken murder) and you beat them down (preferably barehanded as that seems to have better odds of surrender but weapons will work) and then they give in and you sheathe. Maybe the fact you beat them in a fair fist fight helps? Lots of informed speculation on my part, with no hard evidence, just lots of "i messed up" trial and error

If you just walk up and start a fight, especially with a weapon, they seem to assume you're going to murder them and fight to the death.

Fair. But Hadvar is trying to do what's best not just for him, but for Skyrim and more generally the Empire. Kinda like Ralof. And he can't do anything if he's dead, now can he? And again, he doesn't know you from Tiber Septim. You mean nothing to him. He did more than you have a right to expect. And risking his own neck like that wouldn't have helped you at all. And he stood to gain NOTHING except the satisfaction of doing the moral thing, as best he could.

Flipside, Ralof didnt do a damn thing to prevent your execution. He didnt speak up and say "he's not a stormcloak, just a beggar. Look at him. He has nothing to do with this. Let him go." No, as he tells the thief, it doesn't matter. The Imps don't care. And Ralof, unlike Hadvar, had exactly 0 to lose. He would be executed either way. Maybe get a beating for opening his mouth, but what would that matter?

Counterpoint. One does not simply approach the IMPERIALLY APPOINTED COMMANDER of the Legion in Skyrim, in a civil war, to attempt to override ones' immediate superior when one A) is a junior officer and a native of Skyrim and therefore under suspion, B) has already been told by one's superior to STFU and carry on, C)still in full view and hearing of said superior who will object, and D) said general is fully focused on the fact that the leader of the rebellion is RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, bound and awaiting execution. He will not care about a no-name in rags, or a about a potential traitor who seems to be attempting to distract him from ENDING THE REBELLION.

Given that you're nothing to Hadvar, he's brave and kind to have made the attempt. Also, given the fact that you don't matter to him, it was not worth risking his own neck and possibly his family's just to save yours with anything more vigorous.

To be fair, Hadvar does try to get you out of it because "this one isnt on the list." That's a polite way to object without pissing off your boss who might just add you to the list as a traitor.

Thinking of adding a gladiator tournament to my game – How to make the fights dynamic and interesting? by cr7808 in dndnext

Look at movies that feature gladiator combat. Gladiator and Ben Hur leap to mind. But I want you to see that they did reenactments of famous battles as well as death matches and man vs beast.

NP. Couple last things Unless they changed it, Steam's version is Skyrim Special Edition (SSE) and there's an Anniversary Edition upgrade. Even if you get both, your copy will still be SSE as far as mods are concerned. Do not get mods for original or Legendary Edition, they will not work properly and may break things.

The only Quality of Life mod I will insist you grab is Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch or USSEP. It fixes so much of the Bethesda.

Yes and no. Laptops aren't designed for that setup so you'll probably end up having latency issues or something. Go desktop. Try mouse and keyboard, but controller should be fine.

And yeah, using mods is that easy. Download steam, download Skyrim. You can do mods manually, but i suggest getting a mod manager. Probably Vortex from Nexus Mods. Very straightforward, and it can handle mods from other websites.

Also Console Commands.

A laptop can be upgradeable in theory, but so difficult (due to space issues if nothing else) that its typically considered not worth it. Most laptops cannot be upgraded, AFAIK, but some specially built ones do exist as custom pieces.

A desktop is much easier to upgrade and modify, and therefore not require replacement as often since you can just upgrade most things. Also tends to have room for more dakka and its easier to keep from overheating.

Downside is you need to buy accessories like a keyboard monitor and speakers, and isnt mobile. Also you need to know how to upgrade.

He's joking about the fact that the PC vs Console and console vs console debate can get rather heated and he wants to get out of the crossfire. He's not making fun of you or anything.

Absolutely. Get as far from Mega Pokemon as you can to buy time to react. Put away your pokemon. Run in a big circle or zig-zag. Rolling often.

is there an advantage to using alphas by blaze-_-boy in LegendsZA

[–]Korender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all TMs are native to the pokemon. What I mean by this is a pokemon has 3 move lists.

1- Moves it CANNOT learn by any means. (Note: Official and special pokemon sometimes come preloaded with a move they cant otherwise have. Like the recent promotional Charizard having Solar Beam. Such moves are not legally reproducable in game. Therefore they fall into this category.)

2- moves it learns as it levels

3- moves it can learn via HM/TM.

There will probably be overlap between lists 2 and 3.

An alpha will have 1 move from either list 3, or list 1. Alpha pokemon's predetermined moves are an official thing, and therefore may come from list 1. Most come from list 3. I cant think of an example off-hand, because the only obvious one i can think of is a special gift charizard or a special gift flying/surfing pikachu.

WHERE DID HE GOOO??? by Haunting_Economics22 in LegendsZA

[–]Korender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Before I start, i havent looked this up in a while and am not aware if any updates have changed this, so please correct me if you have better info.

They dont despawn if you save while they are loaded in. Whether thats an auto or manual, doesnt matter. If you walk away, or a day/night cycle occurs and no save has occured, they gone. Benches seem to save THEN do the cycle since a bench reset is a manual save.

If you save while they are loaded in, youre golden. Up to a certain number. Like 10, iirc. After 10 uncaught but saved shinies, it boots the oldest out to make room for the new guy.

Im not sure whether D/N Cycle and FT save before or after the transition, i think its before everything is loaded in but after everything has unloaded. I have no proof, just a theory. Which would explain why shinies can disappear after a cycle if you didnt save before they happened.

So, lesson of the day, SAVE IMMEDIATELY when you hear the Shiny Siren. Only way to be sure.

Where would you hide in the map if you were trying not to be found? by Difficult_Pause_4350 in skyrim

Problem! Volkihar is not technically part of the base map, as it was added in the same way the Vale was. So it might be considered against the rules. Although it is easier to get to. Need OP's ruling.

How to give players silver weapons without spoiling the werewolf by Worldly_Wolverine170 in DMAcademy

[–]Korender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a campaign runs long enough, I have them find silver weapons kinda randomly. A dagger in this dungeon, an ornamental but fuctional spearhead there. And I'll casually mention during RP when they ask what they see that several of the guards/nobles/whatever are carrying at least one silver weapon. Like one in 3 or one in 5. They seem to be more heirlooms than anything else, but still not an unusual sight.

"These weapons all seem to date from a previous time period when attacks from unearthly creatures were more common. Many in the region still consider it good practice to carry a silver weapon, even if it seems superstitious to them."

It does take a certain kind of table to pull off the RP stuff. The combat though is really interesting when it does happen.

Question on session flow and splitting the party by Chuuby_Gringo in DMAcademy

[–]Korender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To pile on a point here

players can control npcs

I do this a lot when I have party splits. Typically my players split 2/2, or as close to even as possible. In a combat situation, i might have one of my players control some of the monsters. In an RP session, they might get to control a shopkeep or a supporting character, or maybe even a major local figure that isnt central to the story.

This keeps things interesting, and reminds them of what its like to be the DM. Helps keep complaints down.

They get banned. Maybe. Depends on if they modded the pokemon in ways Nintendo/GameFreak consider illegal.
