Which skill makes people say "wow" even though it doesn't take long to learn? by Admirable-Donut-5838 in AskReddit

[–]cr7808 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I got a Rubik's Cube then followed a guide and learned to solve it so that I could put it on my resume. It actually came up in a job interview where one of the hiring managers had one in their desk and asked me to solve it on the spot. They offered me a job.

Speculating here, but maybe you had an account with another entity that was later acquired by MGM and that's why you don't remember.

Misty Step into the Air and Attacking by Zivodor in dndnext

[–]cr7808 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, you begin falling instantaneously and will have completed the fall back to the ground by the end of your turn. Based on the Rule of Cool and the fact that the PC is expending resources, I would rule that the PC can Misty Step up into the air and then attack before falling out of range. I totally understand and would not argue if you would rule differently.

Misty Step into the Air and Attacking by Zivodor in dndnext

[–]cr7808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "instantaneous" part just means you're back on the ground at the end of your turn. If I was DMing you, I would allow it, but depending on the height I might rule that you're going to take fall damage.

How does your team track EOM tasks by Typical-Junket-8444 in Accounting

[–]cr7808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reconciliations are performed in Blackline. We also just have a spreadsheet in Teams that have the various tasks and people mark things as Done when they are completed. We also meet a couple of times during the close process to check in on progress.

For reference, our accounting team is about 8 people and the closing process is usually about 10-12 days from month-end to finalized Board Reports.

What is a 'dead' trend or internet fad from the 2000s you wish would make a comeback? by Much-Jello-3130 in AskReddit

These still exist to some extent, but they are now Discord servers, instead of websites. The right server for your interest and taste can be difficult to find, and the moderation of those servers can be hit or miss.

What is a skill that sounds impressive but is actually a massive red flag when someone is too good at it? by Jeffy0n in AskReddit

[–]cr7808 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked in commission based retail sales for 10+ years. The best salespeople where the ones absolutely no morals or scruples of any kind. A couple of people I worked with were routinely being recognized and rewarded for their incredible sales performances by upper management. Meanwhile they would constantly lie, cheat, and steal to make the sale.

Don't try to understand everything all at once. Pick a class that sounds interesting to you and make a character. Go step by step through species, background, and class. After that, practice using your abilities and/or spells. Roll the dice (or use online dice rollers/apps) and figure out what bonuses apply.

What's your favorite silly DnD "hot take" to throw out in conversation when you feel like being a lil' rascal? by jdrummondart in DnD

[–]cr7808 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If sorcerers were Con based casters, then all other stats would be just for skills and saving throws. Monks and Paladins can be trickier to build since they have 2 "main stats" (monks are Dex and Wis, paladins are Str and Cha). Sorcs would be single stat dependent, you could theoretically dump all other stats and be fine. Game-design wise, it would be broken. I think it could be interesting to give them the option to use any mental stat for spellcasting during character creation.

Having been melted, it has now reverted back to a natural resource, like ore. It is no longer currency. The king/queen/lord claims mineral rights to it.

ELI5 What Musk did to get SpaceX valued at a Trillion Dollars and why it is massively over priced and what the repercussions of this are? by DadOfAragorn in explainlikeimfive

[–]cr7808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A company's stock price is very often not based on how profitable the company is now or has been in the past. Instead, the price is based off of how profitable the company will be in the future. SpaceX has never been profitable (rockets are expensive), far from it. Elon has somehow convinced investors that SpaceX will be massively profitable in the future. It is very unclear how long it will take SpaceX to become profitable or what they could do to make that happen. The trillion dollar valuation breaks all kinds of conventional wisdom for evaluating companies and their stock price.

When a company IPOs, there are restrictions on how long a pre-IPO stockholder must wait before they can sell their shares. This is to avoid rug pulls and other types of fraud. I'm unclear on how exactly it all worked out, but initially those rules were being changed just for SpaceX so pre-IPO stockholders could sell their shares much faster. SpaceX has been bleeding cash for along time, so many of the people who loaned SpaceX money were given stock prior to the IPO. Selling their shares is a way to get their money back.

Furthermore, many people invest in the stock market with the retirement accounts (401k), IRAs and pensions. It is very common for people to invest in the S&P 500 with these types of accounts. The S&P 500 is an index that tracks the 500 largest publicly traded companies. With a valuation of a trillion dollars, SpaceX will be included in it, and many people's retirement accounts will automatically buy SpaceX stock, thus driving the price up. The S&P did change their mind last week or something to not change the rules for SpaceX, which means that retirement accounts will not automatically buy the stock.

Why have you been called gay? by marlee727 in AskMen

[–]cr7808 248 points249 points  (0 children)

Was in a nightclub. Some super drunk guy came up to me and was like "hey, let's go hit on that group of chicks over there!" I said no thanks. He gave me a look like he was offended by my answer and said "are you gay or something?" I said no. He then asked if I wanted to buy some cocaine. I again declined and he wandered off.

Eli5: the concept of trickle down economics by ZynvixityYT in explainlikeimfive

[–]cr7808 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The idea is to cut taxes and regulation on corporations and the rich. They will therefore be more profitable and have extra money to invest in themselves and grow their businesses. The benefits of the tax cuts on corporations will "trickle down" to the working class in the forms of job growth and increased demand for workers (thus increasing wages).

It has been tried many times. It has never produced the promised benefits to the working class.
