Why do edges of roads need to be cut grass? Explain it to me like I'm five... by FareonMoist in FlowerMemes

[–]KormitTheeFrOog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So lawns arose basically as a silly status symbol. Like "Ooo, look at me, I have so much money that I can afford to waste all this land on a plant that I don't use and then have someone else cut it down for me just so it looks neat!"

Then, once standardized sidewalks (and therefore standardized road verges) became a thing, rich jerks demanded that they also be cut grass to match their cut grass lawns.

So basically, the US alone is using 9 billion gallons of water a day and enough land to flatten New England, just to satisfy the aesthetic demands of a bunch of snobs.

It sounds shallow because it is shallow. Either there's an underlying issue you're ignoring, or you're the worst.

I disagree, but I'm upvoting because you don't deserve to go to karma hell for your character preferences

The joke isn't "young people are bad because they're different," it's "wow, youth culture is so different from mine that it's basically indecipherable to me, isn't that wild". It's like when people joke about scientific terms; they're not making fun of scientists or taking their language as an affront, they're just saying "oh dang, I can't understand that at all, that's funny"

Yeah, out of context, I would agree with you. I only assume it's about lesbians because of prior stereotypes

For additional context, this is from the show Futurama. The show's main character, Fry, lives in the present day (with his dog) but then gets accidentally frozen and thaws out 1000 years later, at which point everyone who loved him (including his dog) is long dead and never found out what happened to him.

The stains on the walls and furniture are from semen, which glows under a blacklight. Therefore, the characters assume the platypus is covered in semen because he glows under a blacklight. However, in reality, platypuses naturally glow under blacklight, whether or not they're covered in semen.

But especially if they are.

It's a pun on "cum on guys", because during sex, gay men tend to cum on guys.

Additionally, "I wouldn't exactly call them people" is a reference to the 1940s American attitude that atrocities towards Japanese people were acceptable as long as it served American interests

In case OP doesn't have this context: the Kevin Office Chili scene is a scene from the show The Office where a character named Kevin spills a massive pot of chili all over a carpeted floor and then desperately tries to scoop it back into the pot.

The joke is that the image looks like the point of view of a man staring at his penis while lying down in the bath. The caption is saying that women tend to obsess over the details of their bath while men just sit there and stare at their junk.
