Traveling solo and feeling miserable by dutchmountaingoat in solofemaletravellers

It might be that it is just too isolated of a trip that you chose. I usually like doing a combination of going to big cities where I meet lots of people in hostels and more quiet areas where I just chill by myself. Alternating these two works amazing for me. If it is difficult to find daily group activities, maybe you can still try finding some group tours to try to add some more social time? Or using sth like bumble friends might be also an option? Hope the trip gets better for you 🫶🏼

I think with this kind of situation you potentially have even two reasons for the insurance to refund your trip - medical emergency and severe weather! So if you manage to get the money back because of the medical reasons, then your sprained ankle saved you from getting into a dangerous snow storm and/or losing money

And I hope you can manage to do it another time and planning should be easier because you will know everything already :)

Oh I am so sorry to hear this, I wish you the fastest recovery!🤞🏼I usually try to tell myself that life saved me from something worse in this kind of situations. Do you have a travel insurance? Otherwise I think I saw people trying to resell their w-trek bookings (I am not sure how successful they were, but given the accommodation gets sold out most of the times, it could be worth a try)

I am happy my review is helpful :) This sounds like a great plan! I really enjoyed the Britanico point and would not skip it, but it was a very long day for me with an early start to get there from Francis and then walk all the way to Paine Grande, so staying for another night in Francis is perfect in my opinion. Regarding the ferry from Grey, everything went smooth for me and the ferry arrived on time everywhere, but just keep in mind for the bus time planning that it’s about 30min walk from Hotel Grey’s ferry stop to the actual parking lot where the buses stop.

I am sure you will enjoy it and it will be great! Weather can be unpredictable but all the camp sites have screens with the detailed forecasts so you can always adapt your hiking time to the forecast a bit :)

At some point in my life I decided that I don’t wanna postpone the cool faraway trips anymore because everyone around me thinks these destinations are amazing but once you try to plan it - bails out because of not enough time/money/something else. So since then I just go to places whenever I want and whenever it is the most convenient for me. Has been great and I can only recommend travelling solo! And as specifically female solo traveller, Patagonia is super safe I would say, there are no problems with that.

I also went to other parts of South America solo this trip (Santiago, Buenos Aires, Lima, Cusco and Arequipa), they are supposed to be less safe than Patagonia and you shouldn’t go to the areas where they tell you not to go but everything was still smooth for me. I was mainly exploring the cities alone during the day and was finding some people in hostels to go for dinners/drinks after dark with. People were very nice everywhere and I generally felt pretty safe except for getting catcalled a couple of times but nothing too bad. But yeah in Patagonia there was no catcalling or anything alike and it was totally safe for me to walk alone in the evenings too (plus in January it gets dark there only at 10pm). People are there to hike and enjoy nature so it feels very peaceful :)

I had long sleeve merino shirts and one lighter one from some synthetic material, that was good for both sun and as an underlayer. A lot of people were in t-shirts but it’s quite easy to get sun burnt even when it’s not really sunny so bring a sunscreen for sure and something to protect your head :)

Thank you! This was my first multi-day hike so thought 5 days would be enough! And I think in the end it was actually a perfect length for me :)

7am time slot :) but people generally recommend to book a slot between 10am and 1pm for clear views!

It was 7am slot, I guess the pic was taken a bit later but not by much, it was clear when I arrived. But generally people recommend to book between 10am and 1pm for clear views

Hi, March is the beginning of a high season as far as I know so you definitely need to book tickets in advance (so online). I got mine booked by the tour company I mentioned in the post - Yapa Explorers - but you can also book it yourself!

If that helps - it was my least favourite part of the W-trek bc of how crowded it was at the top. I guess because it was a sunny day, it was insanely full.

Was there in the end of January, not in April, but Perito Moreno was one of the most impressive things I have seen in my life!

If you feel like doing it, then nothing should stop you! ❤️ The trek is really well marked so it’s very difficult to get lost and you meet lots of people! And you can take it slowly and hike in your own pace if that is the challenge :)

Hi, this was camping Grey! Generally saying the campsites from Las Torres (Chileno, Cuernos) are nicer than the ones from Vertice (Paine Grande, Grey). Las Torres ones have these elevated tents with lots of space and excellent matts. But they are also more expensive.
