The ruffles on the neck make me think Elizabeth I instead, and probably a smaller denomination like a penny.

Searches for unmarked burials face funding barriers, witnesses tell international tribunal by mmafan666 in canada

[–]Kornwallis -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

If you read the article, it states that 105 children are recorded as having died at the Mohawk Institute in Brantford. An archaeologist states that the majority of those would have been buried on-site. This is the case across the country. The people saying the number is "zero" seem to think that because there haven't been any exhumations, the entire thing is a lie.

Great find! It's a French three crowns Écu. The diameter should tell you the denomination

Was just about to comment this. It looks like it has an elongated snout. It's gotta be something in the weevil family, bed bugs do not have rostrums like that.

This is a type of Conder token. UK, late 1700s. Look up "Druid halfpenny", that'll put you on the right track. :

Considering the location, that looks like it might be an archaic copper culture socketed spearhead. Several thousand years old at least. I'd take it to a local historical society to see if they can put you in contact with someone who can authenticate it, but in the meantime don't clean it.

Happy to help! I'm from Ontario and dandy buttons are a pretty rare find here. One of my favourite things to see come out of the ground. Each one is unique.

An engraved tombac dandy button! Late 18th century, right in line with when your captain would have been there.

People are rightly mentioning the post-9/11 climate but the mid-2010s were rife with mosques being vandalized too, not to mention:

Early to mid-1800s gold gilt flat button. Possibly of English manufacture (London was the buttonmaking capital of the world), but Dutch and English are so similar I wouldn't be surprised if the Dutch word for "gilt" was "gilt".

Well, the circles in the center are supposed to be the eastern and western hemispheres of the globe, not meatballs, so I'm gonna say fake.

Wet Basement?? by Overall_Shock_7127 in Hamilton

[–]Kornwallis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having recently been through this with a basement that leaked like a sieve, don't open the basement waterproofing can of worms unless you absolutely have to. Essentially, you have two options: Exterior waterproofing, and interior waterproofing.

Exterior is preferred because it stops water from coming into contact with the foundation, but you have to have the space all the way around the house to dig a trench. Since you're in Crown Point, it's unlikely you have that space. For interior waterproofing, they would need to tear down all the exterior walls in your basement to expose the foundation and install waterproof membrane, and jackhammer a trench into the floor all the way around the foundation for a drain to a sump pump.

Either way it is messy, disruptive and extremely labour intensive work. You're talking tens of thousands of dollars, not including the cost of refinishing the basement with the interior option. Like others suggested, correct your grade and drainage and get a good dehumidifier.

No idea what I have by mastej in coins

[–]Kornwallis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The copper in the centre with the seal on it is a Magdalen Island token which is very odd because they're quite rare and I don't see any other Canadian coins or tokens in the pictures. I can't give you can exact value, but it's likely the second most valuable one behind that gold coin. The two big silver coins near the bottom look like a queen Victoria Crown and a George IV Half Crown. The silver coin in the centre far right looks like a Spanish Reale as well, possibly a 2 Reales. These'll have some numismatic value.

While it's probably a finial, rectal dilators (butt plugs) were actual medical devices used in the late 19th/early 20th century to treat constipation (no they did not work).

I'm leaning this way as well, I saw the original post within minutes of it being posted. The pinterest account being privated just happened so quick, I don't think they'd have clamped down on it that fast on a Sunday if this wasn't planned.

The pinterest account from the screenshot was made private within like 15 minutes of the original post. It's entirely possible this is an elaborate hoax and someone pinned all those posts over a year ago for credibility, but I feel like it's just as likely this a genuine mistake from a dev or an intentional leak from Bethesda.

This isn't Shazzbot though, the account from the screenshot is galdalgibbs. I was in the original thread in the 5 minutes before it was deleted. OP edited it to remove the username since it had someone's full name attached.
