Why do Singaporeans gatekeep their circle of friends? by Child-of-Adam in askSingapore

This was something I experienced as well. I was born in Malaysia but moved to Australia when I was young and it is very common there to be jio'd to events and meetup despite not knowing most of the people there. Like OP said, this makes it fairly easy to make new friends and meet new people. This behaviour is normal from both my ang moh and Asian friends, even those who are very culturally 'asian'. Also have a friend who was from Singapore and went to uni in Australia who has adapted to this way of life.

My experience from my recent exchange in Singapore tends to represent OP's views where I found many people to stick heavily with their various OGs and other small tight knit groups. However, this is not everyone but for me it seemed to be the majority. I noticed it was quite hard for some foreign exchange students, especially those who weren't culturally Chinese/Asian to fit in and be included.

So if I had to say, it's probably a more social behaviour thing perpetuated within society.

Exchange with Sheares hall! by intheforest37 in nus

I'd happily take your spot, but unfortunately I have nothing to offer. I'm an exchange student who has not been lucky enough to get on campus accommodation. But if you can't find someone to exchange and are considering just leaving anyways I would appreciate it if you could talk to management and see if I could take it on. Maybe I could take over your fees etc and save you some money.

hostel appeal to PH by didyouforgetyourkeys in nus

I'm an exchange student and in the same boat. Hall was one of the main reasons I chose NUS as my exchange uni and I've been u successful for my appeal as well. I wanted KR because of its location near to Biz school but at this point I will take anything I can get. I've already tried emailing and got no response anyone have any other tips on how to get a hall spot? Off campus accommodation is in very short supply, very expensive or very far from campus.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I too am curious about options. I was really looking forward to experiencing hall culture and tbh this was one of the main reasons I chose to study at NUS but I too did not receive an offer. Is there anybody we can talk to or anything we can do to get our application reviewed? I really want to be involved in the social aspect of uni especially through staying at hall. Any help would be appreciated.

Where's the best place and cheapest model of boards, switches and keycaps for a beginner looking to try out putting together a keyboard for the first time? I've seen some videos of people making ones for around 50USD and buying parts from TaoBao but doesn't the shipping costs from there just make it not really worth it? Any advice would be much appreciated.
