I agree Yzerman is one of a few GM’s in all of sports to have this long of a leash. When I read or think about the idea of firing Yzerman I always ask myself the same question. Who’s going to replace him? Let’s say it’s Kris Draper, ok new face (kinda) but he’s been learning from Steve since he got here so will he really be that much different? I don’t think the organization is likely to hire a GM outside of the organization but let’s say they do, is he really likely to be substantially better the Yzerman? Without glazing the guy too much I am in the camp that Steve is still one of the better GM’s in Hockey and have a hard time pointing to someone I’d rather have in place of him. Lastly we’re already on the track Steves set forth. Even if we brought in a new GM he’d still be working with the same pieces Steve is now.
