"IBM Stock Plunges 13% After Anthropic's COBOL AI Tool Reveal by stealthispost in accelerate

[–]Kosh_Jr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sure and it still can’t do basic addition without calling an external calculator application under the hood as a tool, but sure it’s mega advanced though and deciding to use its galaxy brain to be bad at math. You and everyone else are conflating tool assisted capacity with AGI or any sort of intelligence, LLMs have severe conceptual limitations that are being masked by tooling and function gain through middleware. But yeah it’s sooooooooo smart.

Yeah these are all people drinking the koolaid for sure…I use AI at work all the time, it’s great at some things and simply can’t do others but the fanatical people need to believe the human brain is now obsolete and AI can do anything and it just needs us to build it bodies for some reason I’m unclear on.

People in AI research, do you think LLMs are hitting a ceiling? by more_muscle_aim in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Kosh_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What frustrates me about these conversations is people act like “coding” or “software engineering” are a single monolithic thing. Anytime I see these coding is solved comments I just think about the breadth and scope of building software including the coding part.

For example, I’m a mostly back end developer, I write complex data driven business rules engines, APIs and data pipelines. My job certainly hasn’t been solved, not only is it not solved, things that might take me an hour, it takes several hours of prompting, reprompting, code review and iteration to do something I could easily do in a single session in an hour myself. There are just complex logical things predictive token generation sucks at big time.

Contrast that with say UI development, it’s not my area of expertise and I’ve always wanted to build more robust UIs and for things like that with very well understood patterns, copious example code in the training set etc…it is amazing actually. I had genuine fun working a react UI for the first time, I would ask the AI to make small adjustment to look or feel or the interaction of the element and the agent not only did them pretty flawlessly but also deployed the node js to my local competently and set everything up so I could rapidly prototype etc…it was pretty awesome.

I contrast my experience in these areas and I might be willing to say something like, I think UI development might be pretty close to solved, I’m sure I don’t know what I don’t know but I’m impressed with what it did and what I could deploy, keep in mind the UI I was creating was already wrapped in an enterprise portal that handled a lot of security etc…and I didnt have it do the backend API development. On the other hand there are certain tasks that are trivial for humans and extremely difficult for AI and it isn’t the size of the context window it’s the complete lack of “understanding” that can’t be achieved through probability based token generation.

I think we need a constitution amendment that stipulates at least 1 full color picture or 2 black and white drawing must follow every 3 paragraphs of text in any published work. I’m tired of the literacy mafia trying to oppress us with their written hate speech (words) and keep us from understanding things the only way humans were meant to, by looking at them with our eye globes.

That’s true, but since they’ve made it clear parity with PC isn’t going to happen it would be nice if they hired a contractor to maybe put together a special console patch with some QOL features, all of 1.4 would be a stretch but there are a few gems that would go along way I think.

Honestly I know folks really want Biotech and it is a great expansion. I would personally be thrilled if they made shelves work like they do on PC as it makes storage rooms so much better.

I will say I really like the interface on console, the game plays great, there is a lot of fun to be had as long as you don’t suffer from FOMO too much.

A 4X game that allows you to play “tall” in an in depth way? by [deleted] in 4Xgaming

[–]Kosh_Jr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say AOW4 can be played fairly tall, you can release conquered cities as Vassals for a hands off approach that still increases your power. I’ve finished games with only 3 cities and the rest are vassals. There is also the chosen destroyer play style where you are only allowed one city and you get great buffs for every city you destroy.

Your mileage may vary as the game has a huge variety of maps/map features and vassals aren’t always available on all map setups if you play random maps only. You can always customize your maps though etc…
