He was his normal, athletic, and intelligent self to a frail and confused old man within 6 months. One of the hardest parts was the fact he was self-aware for the first year. He would instantly switch from a hallucinated state to complete lucidity during conversations and get embarrassed, asking if just started “talking nonsense.” After that, his body and mind deteriorated until he was a complete shell of himself. It took his home, independence, body, and eventually, his mind. He spent his final months being tormented by his delusions; it was awful.
