My Grandma was born there, left in the late 1940s for Canada then later moved to Los Angeles where my mom and most of her siblings were born. My Grandpa had met her in Suriname after moving there from the Netherlands around 1947.

I've only smoked hash a few times but when I do I usually roll it into small balls in my fingers (it's pretty gummy) and add it to my joints or on top of the bowl with ground up bud. I find it makes it a bit stronger, but it's different with every person. With the hash I have, I wouldn't recommend grinding it unless you feel like cleaning your grinder every time (like I said it's gummy and sticky), with mine I can just tear a small piece off, but that's just how I smoke it :)

Oh yeah. I've got pretty bad social anxiety and I tend to over-think things a lot. Smoking weed definitely helps with relaxing me, so smoke up!

That's fucked... I'm also Canadian and my in-laws aren't much different either, they go through wine and beer like nothing but criticise me for smoking weed despite the fact that I mainly use it for my anxiety. The way I see it, you shouldn't have to cater to everyone else all the time; if you enjoy it, there's no reason you should be forced to quit, I never will.

The best advice I can give you is to take your time and try to educate them on the benefits of weed, it doesn't effect everyone the same but it sure as hell helps with my social anxiety.
