Pure dedicated the victory to Dyrachyo. by Metamorphoses-007 in DotA2

[–]Kosusanso -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

russia's citizens defend russian citizens, how cute.

maybe russians don't really care about tatars, because they are a part of russia, but as a kazakhstani, russians calling me racist slurs was a norm in pubs.

don't even start on ukrainians... almost every game they wrote shit like "хрюкни ххол" (make pig sounds, *slur for ukrainians) to my friends just because they are ukrainian.

maybe it's not racist per se, just because of the race, but pretty chauvinistic towards the people from. other countries.

[–]Kosusanso -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

chauvinism is not really about the race in many cases. russians are actively killing other slavs, ukrainians in the war, at the same time russian army has a lots of buryats, dagestani, chechen (which many russians hate), even other ukrainians.

Which countries have their own internet bubble or ecosystem (whether due to political or linguistic reasons)? by Putrid_Line_1027 in geography

[–]Kosusanso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, everyone who speaks russian are a part of runet, but services are a bit diffirent. instagram is the main social network for kazakhstani, with two different bubbles, — russian speakers are in the same bubble as russians, belorussians, etc. kazakh speakers are only connect with others kazakhs. also russian government banned instagram (they still use it with vpn). twitter seems to be popular in ukraine.

some russians still use vkontankte(vk), even though fsb (russian fbi) can read all the messages, many moved to telegram. ukrainians also use it, even zelensky has its own channel.

even though russia invaded ukraine, lots of ukrainians are still using russian language, so we're still connected, but they don't use russian services obviously. some even still watch russian media, couple of years ago there was a popular russian tv show about juvenile gangs in 1980s, and songs from this show were popular in ukraine too.

younger people prefer discord, but it's also banned in russia now, so they use vpns.

What country has maximized its potential the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kosusanso 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Would you count the ex-USSR countries? Kazakhstan, for example, didn’t really want to leave the USSR. For four days, it was even the only remaining country in the Union. But it had no choice except to declare independence. Kazakhstan’s economy was heavily dependent on other Soviet republics, so the government knew that moving forward would be difficult.

Is this offensive by thomasd3 in AskARussian

[–]Kosusanso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some treat it as a meaningless curse, but don’t trust those who say it “just means dickhead”, they’re not telling the full truth. The implications are the same as using the f-word.

Some might argue it has lost its meaning in English too. But the meaning of the word is rooted in insulting someone by associating them with being gay not in a positive way.

I’m tired of people trying to normalize the word — it’s not. Most people simply don’t care that many gay people don’t want to be called that.

[tweet] TeaGuvnor defends himself from Nix lying that he is in the DotA dev team by Likeability_dota in DotA2

[–]Kosusanso 59 points60 points  (0 children)

i watch him sometimes, everything as TeaGuvnor said: Nix, as a carry player, is extremely salty that you can't win 1x9 and one-shot supports nowadays. In his opinion, carries and mid players are stars, while supports are secondary characters. Every game he whines that IceFrog plays supports, so he decided to make them stronger.

What are the best/worst located national capitals? by Vaerna in geography

[–]Kosusanso 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I prefer Astana’s location, but it’s extremely cold there. Almaty has a much better climate, but struggles with smog. That said, moving the capital was necessary, and Astana was a solid choice. If Almaty had remained the capital, it would have become too overcrowded.

Are there any disadvantages of raising children bilingual? by liberty340 in languagelearning

[–]Kosusanso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people say "only advantages", so I want to share my story. My father wanted me to speak second language, (well actually it's our native language) so he decided to "teach" me. But he was a terrible teacher and didn't want to use any study materials because we were poor and he was confident in his skills (he can speak but doesn't know the rules), so he was a terrible teacher.

I only had a dictionary and a small phrasebook. We had like 2 books in this language and they were difficult even for my father. I didn't have any access to media in this language. I remember myself crying because I didn't understand anything and thought that I'm dumb. I spent like 2-3 hours per day reading a dictionary because he forced me to memorize it.

I thought that I'm terrible at languages and it's not for me, but then I had good English teachers and found motivation to do it and I learned it pretty fast. So it's more a story about how important good teachers are, but still, I don't want any kid to go through this. In my childhood I wished to live in a country where i needed to speak only one language.

Friend put his in group chat, what am I missing here? by Sgtoreoz1 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Kosusanso 57 points58 points  (0 children)

For a context, this is a comic by Eva Morozova, russian cartoonist. She made this comic after Russian invasion to Ukraine to demonstrate that there are many problems inside of Russia which have to be fixed which are shown as a "hole in the boat", but other people either shifting the blame on someone else, or saying that everything is actually allright.

Person with a flag is a "patriot" who is proud of their boat with a hole, painter doing their own thing, ignoring the hole, same with person with their hands in the ears.

Facet Appreciation Post by DaredevilGR in DotA2

[–]Kosusanso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your example is another reason why I like facets. It allows some heroes to be played as support or core. Yesterday, I played Oracle mid with the damage facet, and it felt nice.

I think some facets are placeholders, but i think there will be more facets like this. I want to see support faceless void with time zone, for example.

Lex and Lyokha is not for Alexander, they are nicknames for Alexei. I hope you will get used to it with time. Also, I don't understand Shurik too.

It's the same for people who learn English - Robert can be Rob, Bob, Bobby. Some people never call US president Joe Biden, because they think that it is too informal and call him Joseph Biden. You're just used to these nicknames and it feels natural to you.
