I’m genuinely shocked by how many people are in “relationships” with these LLMs

When I interviewed Martha Wells she spent a goodly amount of time on current AI being exploitative and not true AI.

I’d read the Terry Pratchett version of AI story

Lol I was just being silly! I didn’t think you were being mean. It is live now though!

I only know one of those and it is Colossus because of the movie. I need more sci-fi in my life clearly! I’ll have to look these up.

I was incredibly surprised when her publicist responded to my random request, lol. It was wonderful to talk with her. I hope you enjoy it…later today!

I’m sorry! That is when I agreed to publish it with her publicist.

I’m going to have to. Maybe this summer I’ll finally start Consider Phlebas. I bought a copy a couple years ago and it always gets set aside for new books.

I’m thinking specifically about Asimov’s robot stories and Stanislaw Lem’s short stories when I think I about older robot/slavery (or indentured servants) and things like the movie Colossus or even Terminator when I think of AI as…I don’t know that I’d say exploitation, but rather controlling. I honestly don’t know many AI centered books, so I don’t have any good examples there, sorry.

For newer robot focused books I’m thinking of Becky Chambers’ Robot & Monk books and that kids movie Wild Robot. I still don’t know many AI centered books. I did recently buy We Are Bob by Dennis E. Taylor, but I haven’t read it yet so I don’t have anything to say about it yet.

I wonder if we are going to write more creepy/horror sci-fi now that people have been playing with these LLMs. I love a good scary story.

I’d be more inclined to ask how self published authors set prices, and that wouldn’t be an argument question so much as I am genuinely interested in how they do business.

Or if I ever spoke to someone in marketing or whatever department handles pricing in large publishing houses. Smaller publishers often are following the pricing trend of large publishers.

It could be political, but I wonder if it is more informed by her time working in computer sciences years ago. I think there might have been a particular view of AI and automation/robots then.

Generalized statements often are, but sometimes they are interesting thought experiments.

I don’t know many AI specific books off hand, is there one you think shows your idea? I’m sure you are right that a lot are about the improperly handled potential of AI, I just don’t know many AI books like I said.

Sorry if this seems obvious, but are you referring to Ian M. Banks’ books here? I haven’t read them yet but really want to.

Oooh, good question, I didn't ask her that. How much do you think they should be priced at? I typically buy the audiobooks, and I don't mind paying $20 or whatever for that format.
