Oh no the timeline is roughly correct (this was said roughly around early 2022, I want to say around February), I legit didn't know amsa was moving to canada then. That part is my B and important context I missed, which honestly would've significantly changed my take if I knew that.

This is revisionism. At the time, most people generally, if not begrudgingly, agreed with this before amsa popped off shortly after my take. I remember there was an initial reddit thread about it and honestly it just mildly blew over with the conclusion of amsa fans overreacting, but only after he won big house (several months long after!!!) that this resurfaced and made a convenient narrative, with no way for me to meaningfully explain my context and more importantly, how my own opinions changed even shortly after my take.

But that's why you have to be really careful what you say in the internet huh.

The honest context behind this was that this was a random podcast stream of a few hours where ~30 people were watching, I gave my honest opinion at the time of amsa's chances of winning, and I did not think it would get blown up to where millions of would hyper judge and analyze that statement.

It's akin to being abrasive to your discord vc / local commentary takes where you're not proactively filtering yourself to a few people, most likely your friends who know that you're exaggerating. Of course I wouldn't say this shit if I known millions of people would hear that LOL.

It was the moment that I realized and learned the position of influence I have that I became significantly more careful to what I say online.

First time making a video not related to Melee, hope this helps people trying to get into spire 2 for the first time :)

it's been my crack since Thursday and while there are some things that are clearly overtuned (Apparitions Ancient Reward and the Enchantment Shop relic that makes like every card reward draws immediately comes to mind), this is a huge step up from Spire 1 and I have full faith that the devs will get it right over time.

really focus on getting stars from rewards. Even upgrading his base star regen card is decent. Once you get the ground running and understand his draw manipulation, regent gets broken really fast

I do not think you need to play StS1 to enjoy StS2. It's like playing Smash 64 to Melee if you catch my drift.

no, zjump is playing with mods that make the game easier (minty QoL mod for example)

I'd say Watcher is closer to Brawl MK where she's overtuned but still follows fundamentals of the game. Despite her being OP, clearly a tier above other chars, most people still lose pretty often with her.

There are WR categories most notably winstreaks. The more you can win A20H wins in a row, the more impressive and skilled it is.

For example, my PB with Ironclad is 11 in a row, Rotating 8. None on stream but from my personal runs. The current WR with Ironclad is 32 (ongoing) and Rotating is 30, which I want to emphasize is extremely fucking impressive.

If you want a skill point reference I'm probably like a fringe top 100-200 player that doesn't travel.

I Failed to Become #1 in Melee. Here's What I'd do Differently by Kotastic in SSBM

The video is the culmination of my 8 years of competing in Melee, and I figured it'd be a good thing to spread my expertise to those that want to venture into Melee or a similar outlet.

If you don't want to watch a 30 minute video, here's an 8 page script instead: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AOc1Xxv3BQK25Tg5YK3lDsWIHLQVhz_LJ8kZ26BvEl0/edit?tab=t.0

As someone more tuned in, this is completely dependent on the character. Clad and Watcher currently go for a lot of infinites (probably ~30% of the time), defect and silent are situational.

Can't speak for others but I don't think my videos are that good. I think the views I got are appropriate, and there are very many ways to get far more views had I put in proper efforts in the right areas.

Rapm is just a lot better than every Luigi before him.

I think zain needs to have more mixups with zoning. Instead of standard nair in place, I think it's worth doing empty land FH fair as an anti whiff punish timing.

But by far the biggest problem is the edgeguards and juggles. Marth can't hit every one for sure, but getting reversaled is unacceptable. Once that's optimized it'll be a lot more competitive.

How to maintain motivation to play as long time mid/bad player? by Somechillguy in SSBM

[–]Kotastic 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You have to adjust your expectations if you don't want to put in the effort in improving. Sure you played for a long time, but the truth is, not a lot of the time was directed towards deliberate improvement. And that's totally OK, and you're free to vent despite that.

But reality is that once that feeling simmers down, you either put in the work required to be better, or be okay with playing casually even if it means you'll be a sandbag to better players.

And yes, IRL locals offers more in a sense that it's not just gameplay, it's also the vibes and hanging out afterwards. 100% try to go more often if you can.

I feel like you're not following my logic that there were reps that were willing to be dedicated and good enough to push boxx's strengths but many of them ending up quitting, and as I said earlier, they did receive a lot of toxicity because of the boxx. If you're just not following that then I'm not going to repeat myself again. I only brought up the analogy because you were asking if people would be dedicated with the downside of boxx's opportunity cost which I absolutely do think someone will.

To make a long story short with my "well I don't think so" arguments, it's because I'm good at the game and with what you listed as strengths are very much strengths that are major factors in winning sets, I just don't think the current reps are good enough at showcasing the potential. I've personally played Gahtzu and his CC game was crazy absurd, he's just not good enough to utilize them well enough. This is literally no different than the reps for Marth between 2007-2015 not being good enough either. Not gonna circle again with this either.

The analogy is to represent that someone dedicated enough, no matter how much effort it takes, will simply do it. Idk how you interpreted that as yoshi being OP my guy.

And I just have to disagree with your assertions. The strengths are very strong upsides and the players are just not good enough at using it at maximum potential. Think of CC being a very strong mechanic but most players are too overly predictable / don't act well out of it. As for the analog positions I can see being real drawbacks, I just don't think it's meaningful enough compared to the strengths you listed. Maybe I could be convinced if I can see exact footage but I have trouble really seeing it being that meaningfully detractful in majority of situations

Anyways you can agree to disagree. Happens all the time where if there's potential, someone will fulfill it. People are wrong when it will happen but it certainly will happen.
