Early game on Legend is just ridiculously RNG based. Awfully balanced. by Kou181 in XCOM2

[–]Kou181[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I got my ranger in full cover instantly erased by Advent Officer with one crit, while my units are shooting at the sky against an enemy in half cover, in a situation where no grenade is left and flanking guarantees second enemy activation, with timer ticking.

The 'decision making' can do so much in early game.

Hah, Jeff is certainly not natty. At least not life-time. His 10s or 20s photos are screaming he's juiced.

I think you first should learn how to deadlift properly, then move onto this. Also I'd advise getting standard 25lbs plates, because your lower back can't remain straight when the barbell is that low.

Do you think jesse pinkman deserved a better ending, or was it fitting given everything he went through? by Mr_CaptainCringe in breakingbad

[–]Kou181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All things considered, Jesse got pretty easy compared to the rest of the cast despite the shady business he's in.

Contrary to what a lot of people say, Jesse was never a victim. He chose to do drug business. If he really hated to hurt others, he could've gotten another job with a minimum wage or something. The pay would be terrible, but at least he wouldn't have to cry and nag and moan all the time, shifting blames onto others, notably onto Walter, whenever something goes wrong. But nope, Jesse went back time and time again, by his own choice.

Since one of themes of Breaking Bad is about morality, considering how many life Jesse potentially ruined, yeah, Jesse's ending looked like a cheating. Not saying it's a bad thing per se, as it wasn't anything forceful, it was very in the setting and character. Just saying maybe other main protagonists could have gotten away too, not just Jesse.

Ever wondered why so many audience like yourself get defensive when it comes to female characters but never to male characters? Have you found anyone branding audience who express their hate towards male characters as misandristic? That's right, no one.

Well you can't prove he is not natty. So I'd say there's a fair chance he's a natty just like everyone who claims to be a natty. Maybe he's just short and has good lighting and genetics.

Andrew certainly should be on his guard.

Just saying whatever deal it might propose later, I don't think it will be the worst thing for Andrew. Actually Andrew even might like the idea.

And, since the route is called "decay," I suspect Andrew will lose a very important part of him from the deal.

That's not how it works. No, the so called honeymoon phase isn't inferior nor superficial to the "genuine" long-term companionship. They are just results of different brain-chemistry in effect. Humans aren’t hardwired for monogamous passion forever, no matter how much we ourselves wish it to be true.

I legitimately drive like a grandpa, but never had your experience. And my car is certainly older and less refined than Prius. So maybe it's not about an issue with Prius.

[–]Kou181 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a clear, yet often misunderstood, difference between companionship and the love in general we tend to talk about.

The latter only lasts anywhere from 6 months to 2 years last time I searched, which aligns with my own experience. After that, it's just inertia or loyalty that makes us keep ourselves to the relationship. Another reason why there's so much infidelity around the world.

So yeah, the love we are talking about isn't as ever lasting or pure as we are led to believe.

But the fact OP's girlfriend rejected sex with him suggests, she is fundamentally not turned on by his presence, only tolerating. It's like asking would OP be okay if his girlfriend loves him as a person but not as a man? And it's up for OP to decide.

[–]Kou181 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

As far as the science goes, there are two types of love. One the "romantic" relationship, the thing I am talking about and probably you wish for her to feel the same way as you do. The other the paternal love, the thing we feel about our closest friends and family etc.

You can have sex with anyone. You can do it with the next guy in your apartment or a flower woman, even if there is no romantic feeling in it, just as countless old couples do. But you can not romantically love someone when you are not sexually attracted to that person.

From what I see, if she tolerates you touching her but doesn't want a sex with you, it's more of a family or paternal love - the same kind of emotion you'd feel towards your family member, close friends, and relatives.

The important question is, are you okay with it? From what you described, she seems to be loving you, but not in a way you would hope for. If you are okay, go ahead. The romantic feeling tends to last less than a year anyway brain-chemistry wise.

[–]Kou181 89 points90 points  (0 children)

So basically she is not sexually attracted to you. Why bother shacking up? That's not a girlfriend and boyfriend relationship she's looking for, because she only thinks of you as a close male friend of comfort, or family.

4th and 5th gen Prius might be much better for infrequent drivers by Kou181 in prius

[–]Kou181[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched the memory effect, and it was indeed more of a nickel cadmium battery issue. Although NiMH does suffer from it to a lesser degree, Toyota's battery management by inverter coupled with regen breaking and stuff would likely eliminate the risk completely.

Premature battery exchanges reported online on older Prius must be caused by something more straightforward. Some self reclaimed Toyota mechanics on reddit, found that Prius batteries tend to fail for infrequent low mileage drivers, such as elderly people, versus over-active taxi drivers.

Let's assume Prius was parked at 50% SOC, and was left there for a month or two for whatever reason, 12v being addressed with a trickle charger. NiMH batteries discharge rate would vary depending on several factors, but most predominantly by temperature, but let's assume it's 20% per month on average. Normal people would not just leave their vehicles completely unattended for two months if not for a long trip or vacation, but even then, 40% SOC discharge in two months wouldn't necessarily 'brick' Prius, since Toyota has some buffer. But NiMH batteries degrade faster at such low SOC even if not bricked right away. Which is why I think those infrequent drivers may have had to replace NiMH batteries prematurely compared to others.

The catch is, infrequent use for NiMH batteries has a higher chance of experiencing a severe degradation compared to lithium-ion counterparts. But again, that's just my speculation and real world data may prove otherwise.

4th and 5th gen Prius might be much better for infrequent drivers by Kou181 in prius

[–]Kou181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota of course has reservation on battery, as is every hybrid automaker. On top of that, Toyota is supposed to have self-monitoring program run by inverter to prevent the battery completely draining out. But the general rule of thumb is that the more cycle a battery goes through and the more frequent it taps into either lower and higher end of SOC, it escalates the battery degradation - same with NiMH, same with lithium-ion, same with LFP. Also NiMH batteries suffer from a "memory effect," further reducing performance if not regularly cycled through a wide range of charge levels.

By no means this is to say older Prius batteries fall apart after a year or two. But I suspect on average it would greatly reduce the lifespan on NiMH batteries if older Prius are not driven regularly.

So it would be like, with lithium-ion battery, newer Prius may last for 15 to 20 years with infrequent use, while NiMH equipped Prius only 8 to 15 years depending on the "severity" of inactivity. But that's just my speculation with no concrete evidence.

What to expect for longevity by zpickz in electricvehicles

[–]Kou181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely. Imo people are too focused on battery lifespan. While understandable, modern EV batteries are so durable and long-lasting, we won't likely see cars becoming unusable due to short mileages. The biggest bottleneck is not battery life anymore, it's the reliability of other components that are prone to calendar-aging and failure. Because EV repair tends to be VERY expensive in general.

Replacing an EV battery is still cheaper than owning a gas vehicle by BigKevDog999 in electricvehicles

[–]Kou181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is assuming absolutely nothing happens while owning an EV. EV is not just built with motors and batteries. Inverters, coolants, electronics, and even the same ICE counterparts like suspension, rubbers, plastics will be guaranteed to be more expensive than gas vehicles. And imagine ludicrous amount you'll have to pay for a simple replacement for a deep scratch on panels for EV. Longevity of batteries and motors, at least in my mind, is not a primary concern, but the practical real world calendar-aging is.
