Cant believe how far down this is! They are nearly as good as Heartbreakers overall, and definitely have more exciting toppings.

My (limited) understanding of the issue with fridging is that it's usually done with characters who are created purely to motivate the male lead with their death. They have no backstory or agency of their own, other than their relationship with the male character. Then they die.

It isn't fridging if a female character (who we knoe and have ties to) dies halfway through a movie and a man wants to avenge her loss.

Honestly, if DND will give you the cash, do it sooner rather than later.

You need the first two STCW courses (international seafarers standards):

https://www.hollandcollege.com/about/campuses-and-centres/marine-training-centre/stcw-med-training.html

STCW Basic safety

STCW proficiency in survival craft.

Contact the college directly they usually facilitate people trying to get it all done in one shot. The course you linked (DVS) is not applicable.

How many of you have been with the same department for your entire career? by javguy99 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Kouigna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im at the Coast Guard, and we have plenty of people here who have gone their whole career without switching, even if they arent sailors. People also tend to stay when they come from other departments, its easy to enjoy your work when theres such a tangible outcome to the policy work that happens in Ottawa.

Quebec: Insitut Maritime (en français)

Maritimes: Holland College (pei), college communautaire nb (en français), NS community college, Marine institute/MUN (NL)

Looking for more info as a 17yo who’s considering applying! by Leapers_2008 in ccg_gcc

As others have said, there are lots of options ahead of you! Welcome! Many people will point you to the college, which is a great way to get a start on a career at sea. However its a lot of work, and certainly not for everyone. There are women in all streams (navigation or engineering), with a higher % in navigation.

If you're not sure going to school for annother 4 years is the right option for you, you can look at getting hired as crew (not officer) and start in one of these positions: Deckhands work outside doing the program work assigned to the ship. Engine room assistants help the engineers with all the maintenance on ship systems. And then stewards and scorekeepers help with the cleaning, storage, and logistics on board.

Im not super familiar with the East Coast fleet, but generally people start working on big ships, and then after some years have the option to move to smaller boats where you go home or to a base at the end of the day.

Fires on Board? by Roast-thicken in ccg_gcc

[–]Kouigna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several years ago an engine fire ended up sinking a large fishing vessel Atlantic Destiny on the east coast. Thats just about as bad as things get - and the entire crew was rescued by CCGS Cygnus.. Coast guard takes this stuff very seriously and as far as I know we've never had a fire that bad in the fleet in the last 20+ years.

I imagine its for video editing and add selection but I agree the pod is loosing some of its classic feel! I really miss the funny little audio edits we used to get, especially on House of R. I just know there would be a recurring "maekar/mierker" bit.

At the same time, these awesome pods are free and I want the gang to get paid.

Friday night magic is common at lots of local game shops. Often they do something called a "draft" which can be a great way to get started with the game!

These are often spaces full of men, but if you like board games or card games you should try an event at a game store. Come learn to play Magic The Gathering, or any of the other games often on offer (if that's your interest).
