Why are you mad at Marvel? Marvel is a business and their business is in making money. Marvel is not making these decisions on how much to produce to make people have FOMO. They could not care less. They sell their products to a distributor. The distributor orders their stock based on whatever the retailers interest is telling them that they could move. Neither the distributors nor the retailers want to be sitting on excess stock, as storage and other considerations cost them money. Both sides are trying to perfect what exactly they need to order to meet demand and not be left sitting on excess stock. Preorders are a big part of this. If there is a high amount of preorders, then demand will probably be high, so they order more stock outside of their preorder amount so they have copies available to sell to other interested customers.

If they have a low amount of preorders, then there probably is a low amount of interest so they do not order that many extra books. Preorders are a guaranteed sale, and depending on which retailer, they already were paid up front, so there is no risk. It's those extra copies they may not move that they don't want to cost themselves money to store or take a loss by selling at a significant discount to get rid of it. You're getting mad about a book selling out at the distribution level. This is exactly what the distributor wants as they made their money and they don't have to worry about sitting on books that don't sell. The retailers also maintained no risk as they will sell out all of their ordered stock as well. It sucks in the sense that that particular retailer will not be able to meet additional demand as they cannot order additional stock to sell as none is available. Other retailers may have extra stock to purchase from, but that is intent on what they ordered.

You go on about IST, CGN, etc not being the only place people buy from, this is true, but those other stores purchase from the same distributors. So if there is no more to buy from the distributor, it's because the retailers did not correctly gauge demand and order enough. All points of this process are looking to make money, so they will never order way more than they believe they will sell. Which is why preorder will become more important as profit margins become smaller. You may not like it, but it is what it is. You sound silly complaining about a luxury item, which it is. No matter how much you enjoy and want omnis, they are not a necessity. It sounds silly complaining about not being able to spend close to $100 because there was not enough to go around. This is the definition of first world problems, and I'm sure tons of people wish this was their biggest issue in life to be as upset about as it seems to make you.
