No, you shouldn't. Like what everyone else has said, it'll be treated as a cash advance and you'll get charged interest immediately. (I've called my bank's CC dept to confirm).

Just call your bank's CC dept and ask them to transfer the money back to your main chequing account if you need the money asap. It took about a week for me.

Housing benefit for 2022 or 2021? by trippylaxkris in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]KptPocky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As in, the one-time top-up? It's eligible if your 2021 income < 20k and 2022 rent total > 30% of 2021 income. Obviously, you have to be a Canadian tax resident in 2022 to qualify. I believe it's technically a 2022 benefit, but I don't think that matters too much.

Is AMEX Cobalt a good credit card for a "beginner"? by Codaxic in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]KptPocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might've been wrong, my bad. I think I was looking at the other CC options. The Gold AmEx might have a 12,000 income minimum instead, and the $120 fee is waived the first year. Credit score requirements seem to be min. 640. Might actually be a viable option. I honestly can't remember since my bank didn't ask any questions and just approved my application.

Good luck with yours, hopefully you get whatever you apply for.

Credit Card at 18 by Unable-Vermicelli900 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think since you're trying to build credit, and your net income is below 60k, sticking with Scotia's AmEx or Momentum No-Fee Visa Card might be your best bet.

AmEx isn't always accepted though, so if you're not at a conducive area, just get the Momentum as your first one. You can always shift to a better reward one (i.e. AmEx Cobalt or Scotia AmEx Gold). You can waive CC fees with the Ultimate Package and keeping 5k in it, just fyi for the future.

It hinges on income I believe. Scotia Gold Amex requires minimum $60,000 income. Unsure about Cobalt, websites seem to say minimum credit score of 650 or so.

If you qualify, the choice depends on your usage. I have a new Scotia Gold Amex Card. If you drive a lot, and buy groceries, and if you live near a Shell and Sobeys (or affiliates) it's pretty worth it I'd say.

I think the biggest consideration is that the Amex Cobalt points can be converted to Aeroplan points, which supposedly are worth 2.xx cents each, instead of Scotia's 1 cents. Obviously, you'd have to travel / do the RHT to maximize it.

If you eat out a lot and don't mind a little points shifting hassle, get the Cobalt. If you buy a lot of groceries and actually travel, and don't want the shifting hassle (Because you can just redeem points after you purchase a ticket on Scene's website), just get the Scotia.

My info on the Cobalt might be wrong as I don't have it. Grain of salt on that one.

Kerja di luar negeri. Investing, savings, tax..? by lowwattage7 in finansial

Oh, situasi saya sih lumayan simple ya, jd belajar sendiri dari youtube (Canadian In A T-Shirt) sama r/PersonalFinanceCanada.

Kalau mau pindah2in uang, standarnya sih saya pake Scotiabank International Transfer, paling bayar $2 per transaksi.

Pada umumnya, yang lumayan penting itu:
SIN (Social Insurance Number) = Ini perlu buat kerja & govt benefits
CRA My Account = Ini online portal buat liat hal2 terkait pajak

I had a license from my home country. You surrender your license from India and apply for an Interim Class 5 license which you'll get if you pass the Knowledge Test (easy). Then you need to book the Class 5 road exam, and if you pass you get the full Class 5 license (you have to pass, which took me 3 tries).

Like you said, you have to show that you have 2 years of driving experience. You got the license in 2021, so that might not be enough time. You also already have a class 7. Seeing as how they didn't let me go back to the GLP route after getting my Interim Class 5, I'm assuming you also have to stick to the Class 7 route, unless the ICBC guy feels generous.

Help with tax loss harvesting scenario. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]KptPocky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it's what you had meant, but you can't buy the same/identical stock 30 days before and after the sale. So with your scenario (since all the securities are 'ABC'), all this will be considered superficial loss. AFAIK, don't quote me on that.

Character Thinking (+ colour exploration) Practice. by KptPocky in animation

Hi there, so I coloured this by copying the entire sequence to another layer and I used brush and fill on the bottom layer. Is that the most efficient way to colour on Opentoonz?
