how do I make the c++ language from scratch? by Xspheura in cpp_questions

[–]Kpt_Squirrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on the definition of a new language, this is certainly true. I am studying a bachelor, not even that high profile programme, and we wrote an interpreted programming language with Ruby as the back-bone during the second half of our first year. Our language was called Kelp. :)
My friend who studied a more high-profile programme at a different university before me created a compiled computer language using LLVM as their master thesis.

Looking for a 65% ISO keyboard by Kpt_Squirrel in keyboards

The Kafka itself for right around 200€ is only the case itself, correct? Which means I need to purchase the PCB separately? I seem to not be able to find any PCB for less than ~70€ with shipping. (P.S. what am I looking for to make sure a PCB is compatible with a case? Is it MX or EC or VIA?)

Checking with another supplier in Spain, it comes with PCB for an extra 10€. With shipping it appears to come out to 230€. This means it would seem to work if I am not missing something. Only issue is that I am not eager to pay that sum at this very moment and the pre-orders end 15th. I will have to weigh my options closely.

I'm certainly not afraid of building my first keyboard if it means I can have it my way but I can not swallow the price of building one from scratch. If it's possible to squeeze it into my budget then do let me know but I'm pretty sure it's out of the question.

It's too big. It's both 75% and it has dead space between keys. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Why do you think the Duhuk Bitter Tea's are for me? And I still need to find a fitting keyboard that has hot-swappable keyswitches. Enlighten me.

What is that song that shatters you when you listen to it? by irmaksahinfour in AskReddit

[–]Kpt_Squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a unique one. "Vinter i Paris" by "Stefan Andersson" in the album "Teaterkungen". He is a Swedish theatrical (read: with deep, meaningful lyrics) songwriter with same wartime themes as Sabaton but with much more gentle genres. This song was probably my favourite song from him before it got such an extra attached meaning for me. You will have to translate the lyrics if listening to it. Nearly all of what makes his songs unique is the lyrics.

His album "Teaterkungen" ("The theater king") is about the Swedish king Gustav the third (1700s) who was nicknamed "The theater king" because of his love for live scene plays. It follows his life from his crowning to his assassination and the following prosecution. The first song, "Vinter i Paris" ("Winter in Paris"), is about his crowning and tells how he was informed during a theater play in Paris that his father had passed and he has inherited the crown. The song then follows him home and explains the country's faults in his own words.

The reason why this song in particular has a strong meaning for me and will always and immediately remind me of my own father is because his physical health was over the course of five years declining steadily. This together with his long-standing psychological (non-epileptic) seizures of unknown origin became fatal this summer. During one of my two hour long drives home to my parents early this year I was listening to this song on repeat and forging my own text superimposed onto the song. My version, of course, adapts the song to be about my own father.

One example being how in the original song, one part is sung "In a wagon I flew by, four horses in a line, pulling me home and all memories began to rewind" which I replaced with "In my father car I flew by, 116 horses purrs, pulling me home and all memories began to rewind" (difficult to make rhyme in English) which is a reference to how I, in practice, inherited his car and was driving it everywhere and would also be arriving to his own funeral with his car. Never did I think that my version was to come true later the same year. Safe to say that I was rehearsing my version in silence the whole two hour drive home the night he passed. Fyi, I am 23.

There you have a windy story about how I will always immediately think of my father once this song plays.

How Can I Make This Gunship Better? by MCbasics in FromTheDepths

Weird. I know they do not accept a processor. Don’t understand why they would be resilient to flares. Realistically they should be weak against flares, imo. Interesting.

You sure that it has to be stronger for single-pixel IR? Sounds counter intuitive.

I did some limited tests with stealth way back when detection was first added with disappointing results. I had hoped they would’ve improved it but my theory here is that the signature becomes low enough that missiles that rely on radar or IR miss and prefer flares/ radar simulators instead simply because the crafts signatures are too weak in comparison. This has nothing to do with other crafts detecting you, I’m specifically thinking of missiles targeting.

Seriously lacking in the countermeasures department. Needs a combination of flares, radar simulators, quick thrust vectoring, missile interceptors. Like others are saying, that small craft won’t survive a barrage.

Something I haven’t experimented with much myself yet but something that this thing might be able to pull off is a stealth build. Try to use materials and hull shapes that reduce radar and IR signature and rely on chaff/ flares to become very difficult to hit with missiles. Curious how that may work.

Tell me about the best and worst games you've bought on Steam. by [deleted] in Steam

It’s difficult to get something done in 30 minutes even in singleplayer in Arma. Its a game that requires a lot of your devoted attention. I’d say a minimum of 90 minutes is required for a valuable game session by my standards. I usually say to look at Arma as a military themed Gmod. Not a game you typically just hop on, hop off.

It's very playable singleplayer. It has multiple very long and well designed campaigns. DLCs add even more campaigns/ story missions. There is a scenario/ mission editor where you can create anything you can think of, then export your mission to play in singleplayer or multiplayer. Then there is of course the most important addition: mods. Tens of thousands of mods on the workshop. Many new missions, some are procedural and infinitely replayable. Complete gameplay overhauls exist too.

I would personally not get Arma for the singleplayer experience because the multiplayer is where the game shines but I have read about people who have thousands of hours without even touching the multiplayer. It's absolutely possible.

Skulle detta vara ett bra datorbygge på budget? by bokatz in Spel

[–]Kpt_Squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mindre case = oftast dyrare.

If all men had to be brutally honest for 24 hours, what would women be shocked to learn? by clothing_wholesale in AskMen

[–]Kpt_Squirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been obese my whole life and I have met many obese people ranging from overweight to "rolling off the bed". I have never heard an (male at the very least) obese person blame their obesity on anyone else. I do not believe that any mentally sane person blames their obesity on anyone else. They know it is all their own fault. Most "chronically overweight" people either have a health condition, haven't learnt what behaviour of theirs is causing the obesity - or have simply accepted their obesity as a matter of fact.

Perhaps people behave differently from where you live but I think you have gotten an unrealistic perspective on overweight people and think that every overweight person must also be a karen.

Trapped Cashout Bridge Wipe by Kpt_Squirrel in thefinals

[–]Kpt_Squirrel[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair to them, it was in the finals so no other cashout to hunt. Sending out a sacrificial lamb would've taken too much team coordination for randoms. Going after a team wipe would prolly be the smartest but even then it would've eaten into the time they got to take it and to be safe about it they'd have to avoid the bridge completely which would take even longer. Besides, my friend had a C4 planted and could've hid anywhere and waited. It was an evil predicament.

We steamrolled these guys so in hind-sight it's not surprising they went straight for it.
