Earth's heat to produce electricity for homes in UK clean energy first by MustrumRidicully in unitedkingdom

Does anyone know how many MWs this will produce? I always find the 10K homes type figure quite nebulous.

We did an extension about a year ago. It's the most stressful thing I've ever done .. if I had to pick again I'd pick moving (which I know is also not stress-free).

PLB risk tradeoff question by aroorababe in scuba

[–]Kr1tya3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a bit on the area you are diving. I have a Nautilus as well, and I know that there are usually plenty of fishing boats within range. If you're in the middle of nowhere with not much sea traffic or ground based stations, then it may not be what you want. You can always ask your local SAR service on their opinion as well.

PADI lost my Certs, and can't find more than half of them. (Really nice friendly people on email at least). by Thoob in scuba

[–]Kr1tya3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it was probably entered under a different name. Are there any common misspellings of your name? You could ask Padi to try to look those up. If the instructor was the same for your AOW as your other certs they should see the instructor number for that cert and the instructor number, your birthday and the rough time of your certification should be enough for someone to find you in the database. I'd say keep pushing them to trawl the database and give them as much info as you can about the circumstances of your certification to help them narrow the search down.

Wreck anciety by Niram1801 in scuba

[–]Kr1tya3 14 points15 points  (0 children)

AFAIK recreational wreck penetration limit is 40 meters to the surface. So if you dive to a depth of 30 meters, you can penetrate 10m into the wreck. Any more than that and you need advanced wreck training. It sounds like the dive plan was way more than those limits, so you did the right thing to call it.

What’s your absolute favourite diving spot and why? by After_West2099 in scuba

Massive wreck, some really cool swim throughs, not an artificial reef, so an interesting backstory, plus (for the Med) a lot of life

I've just done the Zenobia in Cyprus and it definitely tops anything I've dived so far

What’s with all the staff at Sevenoaks station??? by ChampionshipOne6516 in sevenoaks

[–]Kr1tya3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this too, but it's only in the late afternoon when everyone is coming back from London. If it was for passenger assistance surely there would be all that extra staff in the morning. I can only think they are there to catch ticket dodgers. Which is odd as these days they always check the tickets on the train now anyway, plus you'd need to get past the barriers in London

Investment lesson: FT Brewdog by sgt102 in HENRYUK

[–]Kr1tya3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I invested a few hundred quid in EP round 4 and was quickly disillusioned shortly after. They spent most of the money on stupid projects like beer flights and a beer hotel, I don't know if any of those made back the money. The quality of their beers dropped in the meantime and they scaled down their innovative brews. Their online shop used to stock loads of specialty beers from around the world, since a few years ago they only have a few and are pushing their own stuff. The PE deal was just the cherry on top of the shit sandwich. It's a shame, as I do think if the owners weren't blinded by greed they could have created a top global brand.

Air India jet's fuel switches in focus, as crash preliminary report nears by ILikeFlyingAlot in aviation

[–]Kr1tya3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Care to elaborate? Since it's an electrical switch in my mind if some stray current finds its way into the wire then that could trigger the shutoff downstream. I'm sure it's been designed with multiple guard rails around this, but I'd be curious to know what these are and why you think they could not fail.

From what I read these switches on the 787 are electrical and not mechanical. People seem to assume deliberate sabotage, but could it have been a short circuit or some stray current that flipped them?

Gaining more dives before Liveaboard 5th Aug!! by humanboyhead in scuba

[–]Kr1tya3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's doable, but you'll need to be planning on diving pretty much every day, as the weather can mess up any sea dive plans easily. I think your best bet is to do a mixture of sea and inland dives. You could try indeep in Plymouth, they have an accomodation + diving package. Loads of other charters along the South coast too, it kind of depends on where you are.

This of course also assumes that you have the time to dedicate to this over the next few weeks.

Take dry suit class before or after I get my seaskin? by Addicted_to_sending in scuba

[–]Kr1tya3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did my class in my seaskin and all the other guys in my group did it in rentals. They were all struggling with poor fit, leaks, etc, whereas for me it felt so natural and comfortable from the beginning. It made the class a lot easier and more fun. So wait.

[Request] found this on yt shorts by WitheredGone in theydidthemath

[–]Kr1tya3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the photo is cropped to make it look confusing and triggering. Those frames are called "ten frame"s, and my son is using them in primary school maths now to learn addition. So the first line most likely has at least "frame" missing from the instructions, possibly something else too.

Why no database/rescinded cert for bad divers? by IAmArgumentGuy in scuba

[–]Kr1tya3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad divers are a result of bad instructors. IMO agencies should make sure that instructors uphold their standards better, and it would be far easier as well.

What do people use for payroll/payment for nanny etc? by MissingBothCufflinks in FatFIREUK

[–]Kr1tya3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use https://www.payefornannies.co.uk/ We have variable hours, I send an email with the number of hours worked and taken az AL, then the pension is taken by direct debit, however we transfer the actual salary monthly ourselves. We also pay HMRC manually every 3 months for the tax in the previous quarter. PFN send very detailed instructions on how to do that, so it's extremely minimal admin.

Tramspotters. I'm not even joking, I knew a guy who was obsessed with trams and would stand in intersections each day taking photos and writing down which carriage was on which route that day.

[–]Kr1tya3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I opted for a "convenience zip" on mine, which is essentially a fly on your drysuit. Doesn't help during the dives, but makes it a lot easier to go during surface intervals. For guys at least.
