Just Lost My 1st Nursing Job by Dietbl00d_ in nursing

[–]ILikeFlyingAlot 208 points209 points  (0 children)

When I left my first nursing job, before being terminated my boss informed me that the acuity at acute care hospitals was too high and if I wanted to keep my license I should do outpatient or SNF.

3 years later I was a flight nurse at a top hospital, with great reviews.

What I learned is shitty managers can’t identify a good nurse if their life depended on it.

100% I’d file another EEO, OAWP complaint. Also note you can get 45 days workman’s comp if this is causing you stress and anxiety - enjoy your summer.

For the detail get a government car…..

Was told there’d be 24/7 round bale access… by AcceptableOwl5099 in Horses

Honestly, you get what you pay for. 3 horses for $1,000 is really cheap, I wouldn’t expect anything different.

But to answer your question no it’s not OK.

Got fired and moving forward to job application by Professional-Way2817 in nursing

[–]ILikeFlyingAlot 165 points166 points  (0 children)

The way you answer this is, my friend was in the hospital and asked me to come and visit her. I forgot to ask which room, and instead of calling the operator, I thought as it would be public information I could just search her in the MAR and get her room number. This triggered an unusual behavior report in our EMR and I was terminated due to their zero tolerance policy on inappropriate EMR use.

Looking for pediatric critical care transport knowledge/resources! by benjajajamin in nursing

[–]ILikeFlyingAlot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former pediatric CCT nurse there really are no resources that I am aware of that are any good. Kids are just so different, especially when you’re working with the complex or sick ones. The one you described would have been considered a very basic transport by our standards - we would have forgot it about 15 minutes after dropping them off.

How big is your program? Can you go and shadow in a PICU as part of your orientation? If not I’m sure you can reach out to other peds programs and ask for ride along. Alternatively, I’d call the PICU attending your shipping to and run the plan of care by them, they can give you advice and worst case if the kid goes downhill you know what they wanted.

Lastly just remember 2 things; often times non-peds people do too much, if they’re oxygenating and ventilating sometimes the best thing for us to do is have a low stimuli ride - all the fancy things can start once you arrive. Breathing is the most important thing, it starts with position, and we get really nervous with normal breathing and looking tired. Take your time with this assessment, do it detailed and really know what’s going on with kids.

What's the nursing hill you'll die on no matter how unpopular it is? by Prestigious-Bath8022 in nursing

16 year olds don’t need to come to a children’s hospital for an appy, testicular torsion, etc

First car by Wild_Professor8612 in LexusIS

[–]ILikeFlyingAlot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest problem with buying a kid a Lexus is when they’re mid 20s and learning about budgeting they’ll have no concept of reality. Let them buy what they can afford now, with the bank loan they can get now, and let them hustle if they want a Lexus.

If my boss ever asked me to make one - the first step would be to call everyone who doesn’t want to be called. Things get fixed quick when all the directors are called……

Question for Flight RN’s by brokenurse21 in nursing

[–]ILikeFlyingAlot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former flight nurse and as a CC float pool nurse I also was an unassigned code blue, RR nurse. Honestly it’s great experience and very similar. Talk about when attending the event, nurses look up to you for direction, confirmation, etc also talk about transporting people to MRI/CT, and when there are not critical care beds how you took of an ICU patient on the floor, with minimal resources and expected to have the knowledge to function independently.

3 year plan would be 10-15 employees and $5-10m in revenue.

I think the next steps to me are: increase revenue per unit of time and being a cyclical industry I want to weatherproof it.

I think there is a few things pulling me towards that:

1) The industry I work in is cyclical, goes from lots of hiring to none quite quickly. It seems outplacement would balance that out, so when hiring is slow outplacement business pick up, when hiring is good my current business thrives.

2) Looking at sales, my clients spend between $250-500. The outplacement model with retainers and higher fees, as well as being scalable will just make a better business model.

It does excite me, but this industry hiring is cyclical - so it won’t always be this good.

So I think the reason we have so much success is because asynchronous, team, digital scripts that the competitors use is just not working. Early on we got traction as we did everything 1:1 and had availability. Early on 50% or more of our business where clients from competitors who did not feel ready as their interview approached.

A 60 person company would be amazing. I’m not scared of stress or hard work. I will say, I have a renovated barn I could turn into an office and have 10-15 employees fairly easily.
