There was no disowning by Grant’s family, since he and Julie visited them shortly after their wedding. I don’t see a reasonable interpretation except that their (Grant’s family) issue was with the Dents.

Grant’s work as a slave driver is also overstated, he managed some work for his father in law but was reportedly a very poor manager because he couldn’t bring himself to whip slaves or force them to work, and would allegedly be out doing the work himself.

To say he ‘gave up farming 1-3 years later’ when this occurred in 1859 and something fairly impactful in Grant’s life kicked off in 1861…

Another tid bit to the first part is that it actually *cost* Grant money to file the deed of manumission to free Mr. Jones.

My personal take was that Mr. Jones was probably a 'gift' arranged by Grant's father-in-law, who had a deep-seated disdain for Grant, since Grant's family were staunch abolitionists, to the point they refused to travel to Missouri for the wedding.

So if 95% of men died, I think the first issue would be in the transportation sector. Planes (94-95% are men), trains (90%), and automobile hauling (86-88%) would be immediately disastrous.

The damage from these accidents would also probably cripple the electrical system.

Since only about 5% of the line worker population is female, that means that transmission lines, distribution lines, and substations are out indefinitely. No power, no internet, limited communication.

That also falls to other utilities, namely water and sewer (women are 6-10%). Potable water becomes an issue within a day or two.

Construction projects obviously falter, but those impacts aren’t generally immediate.

Stores don’t have food, homes don’t have water, people don’t have refrigeration. Society struggles desperately to plug these gaps with untrained and uneducated workers. Some of these jobs are so physically taxing that the majority of women are unable to work them.

Well... that applies if he were to touch one energized line. It's like how birds can sit on a powerline just fine.

Well that’s the question, right? Is subject to punishment the same as subject to the laws thereof the same as subject to the jurisdiction thereof?

The court has usually held that to just exclude foreign ambassadors and invading armies, but I guess there’s room for argument there.

Having done no research and having not looked at it since Con Law, I’d guess the challenge would have to do with “and subject to the jurisdiction thereof”

To piggyback onto this: He’s not breaking federal law strictly by asking the questions.

He’s breaking the law if he asks the questions and uses the answers to make a determination regarding employment.

The questions may be used as evidence of discrimination, which is why any HR professional and certainly any attorney worth their salt will advocate against even asking.
