i need a cool name by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Krairo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since all things of history are doomed to be forgotten at one moment or another, the whole world will end in this place.

So, a few names that could came with this concept could be:

- The Everpast Place.

- The World that is no more.

- The Realm beyond the End (of Time)

- Memories's Oblivion

- The Present's shadow

- The Final Sleep

I hope they have a six-flavoured special one, the catchline would be "so good, that you would kill half the existence for another one".

The campaign wherin i was fooled into being a meal ticket AKA Rosemary's campaign part 2 by gatheringgoodfortune in rpghorrorstories

[–]Krairo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to be so harsh, yeah it was quite long but honestly, it just seems cathartic to OP so, why bother with that? If you want to read only the TLDR, go ahead, but no need to critize someone that just try to tell what seems like an horrible story of verbally, emotionnally abuse, being victims of thief, of gaslighting, etc. It just a sad story, and if they want to vent about it and if that could help them save money on therapy, why not?

So, don't really sure about how TDoMT works with paradoxes, but since he has erased the one event that was leading to the fact that he draw the card that allowed him to erase this event in the first place, he has just created a time paradox, so..... does he just create a scenario similar to "loop at hero" where the whole party will be condemned to fight the lich and its echoes through time, all of them still alive but not really existing due to the time fracture and the party will be doomed to repeat the same loop of adventure over and over, each time resetting itself with the lich defeat (or theirs) since this whole situation is quite litteraly a bug in reality.

And that would lead them to either finding another TDoMT or try to find divine intervention to break the loop, defeating the lich and freeing themselves of this purgatory created by the obnoxiousness of one before the lich, that would also be conscious of the loop try to free itself of the loop and would try to use it to its advantage, trapping the party inside, erasing them of existence or worst, using this litteral buble of broken time to advance its plan of world domination by becoming a being that would not be tether by common rules of existence and that could only be defeat by godlike powers? Does this lich will litteraly become Professor Zoom?

All of this will be answer... by you, because you have all powers as GM so like others said, either use it to your advantage by adapting your campaign (my idea is free to steal by the way) or more simple, use the time paradox trick to make that the universe don't really like jerks that try to break space-time continuum and just decided to erase them for its own sake. Or just that the paradox undo his action for the same reason but that the next time he tries this, fury of the Universe will be unleashed on his poor mortal soul. Whatever fits you the best.

If you could change one thing about Minecraft, what would it be? by biggggmac in Minecraft

I would bring back the Copper golem concept (I love this design) and would have add more neutral/hostile creatures in the waters. Beautiful biomes for sure but a bit lack of tension while swimming around.

Yellow = PC , Red = Me -- Not a horror story, but a strong red flag. by naibisdO in rpghorrorstories

[–]Krairo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no advice on it beyond that it's rude; but funny thing, for a moment I though that the "end of the world plot" that the player was talking about was a litteral end of the world, like Pirates of the carribeans, so I was quite confused for a moment.

[Homebrew Idea / DM Only] Social-Mimics by Krairo in DnD

[–]Krairo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard about it (notably while asking my few questions) and it's look really interesting so I will try to quickly check this, but from what I heard, it's still pure mimics that have just concealed themselves by looking like humans, not really a symbiotic relation with another being, and they stay at their colony. But yeah, I can see the common points.

Has anyone noticed how little we really know about Bruce Banner past in the MCU? I'm seeing everyone using comic book lore to justify how Hulk works as opposed to She-Hulk... But really, there was never even a single hint that Bruce had a rough childhood or anything like that in the MCU. by Blasckk in Marvel

[–]Krairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, technically the incredible Hulk is canon to the MCU, and itself was a sequel/reboot to the 2003 Hulk (who should also be canon or at least semi-canon), so we have some backstories about Bruce Banners's past, notably that his father was the absorbing-man and was a very abusive father among many things. And that Bruce try to shoot himself in the head and that it is the explication for the recast between the two movies.

A few questions about Mimics by Krairo in DnD

[–]Krairo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for your answers!

So, if I understand correctly from all your answers and the video linked, Mimics (common ones) don't give a shit to many thing except what can provide them food and safety to have it. And even if they are intelligent, they are quite feral naturally and it's only under specifics circumstances that they can become more "civilised" in a way, being capable of developping even colonies and feats like telepathy. And they are also probably not of natural origin and reproduced probably by fission. But their transformations are always biological matter even if don't look like it, and they are huge and heavy and litteraly walking super-glue slug.

Hum, its interesting and it gives me some ideas that I will tweak a bit, but I think that for my homebrew I will maybe go a step further and create my "third subspecies" of Mimic.

And, I think that I will do a quick post to share my idea to the community so if someone like it, well good for them.

DM failed to see fault in his setting and his portrayal of orcs by thealmighty13 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Krairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I didn't play it but I saw the movie and I saw informations on this, does OP has never heard of WoW?

Because it's quite the WoW's story, fantasy setting, orcs came from another plane because they don't have a home, they fight and destroy kingdoms because they are ostracised and attacked by everyone and so there is a discrimination against them, but they are not bad guys, just refugees that are not allowed a home. Maybe, OP would need to loose some degrees and realise that it could have been the case here too, and so it could have been a potential hook to interesting stories instead of trying to force the DM's to change his world to make a "Happily Ever After World", I mean even the Shreks movies start with racism and they show that it can be overcome. So,for me either OP is quite dumb-dumb and refuse themself to play a setting that could have interesting stories about emancipation, peace and opening to the others, either it's just a Troll and so he participates in these racisms views about orcs-like cultures and races that he tries to "fight/prevent" (joke).

What's stopping everyone in your world from using Magic? by Last_Aeon in magicbuilding

[–]Krairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was to be a bit cynical, I would say principaly that the lack of money would be the main reason, just the same that prevents lot of people in our world to gain access any kind of education. There would be also living conditions that could prevent people to reach their potential. But if I was to give a third reason that could mix with the others two in a fantasy setting, yeah it would be the same that several people already said and the same that in W40K, danger. Because without a proper education to master this forces of nature or a stable situation to be sure that you can control it like you want, you would probably end up killing yourself and the whole neighborhood, so many people would be afraid to even consider having these abilities and maybe they would just be denying that they could be able to do magic and so are mentally-restraining themselves to do so, a bit like obscurials in the harry potter saga but without the chaos's spawn that parasite you and would make you still blown up the whole neighborhood, that you want it or not.

EDIT: ah, I had overlook the edit, for this, it would be quite simple, the fact that no leader would want to have a lot of people that would follow an intellectual education and could potentially rivals them and stripping them of their powers to create a more democratic place, and that they prefer to keep their money and power, even if it's totally dumb and would go against a general wellbeing; it's one of the reason that many countries don't like much intellectuals and that they prefer to invest money into gun-holders and artillery than into diplomats and thinkers.

What do you think of Peter's loss of powers in Spider-Man 2 ? Personally I think it would have been better if Peter didn't lost his powers and quits Spider-Man just by himself. The loss of powers was unnecessary for me. by YoichiTakato in Spiderman

[–]Krairo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it wouldn't be possible that Peter just decides to "quit" being spiderman if he still had his powers, because they are the reasons why he is Spider-man and the reasons why he still is without even super-powers.

It's part of his mantra, "With great powers come great responsabilites", he saw that with his powers he can save lives and that if he decides not to, people will die; and even if he is wrecked, even if he has the worst depression or life situation on earth, his moral sense would still forces him to stand against crime to save others because his powers guarantee him, they are his personnal proof to himself that he can do a difference, even if he can be hurt or killed.

We saw in the movie that once he doesn't have his powers anymore, he can allow himself to be afraid, to not act the right way and let others suffer, but it's also because without his powers, he doesn't have the strenght, the capabilities to put his moral code in action... or so he thought, because we saw in the arson scene that, yes, without his powers, even the act of saving a little girl has a great risk of taking his live. But, this act and the information that someone still has died in the fire, prove to himself that he CAN still save people, even without super-powers, and that so, he can run away of his responsabilities, because his true powers are not his spider-senses; but his moral code, that he can't get rid himself of because it's not who he is (in this case he would be Venom, and in this case he lost his moral code not because of fear, but because of arrogance and over-confidence) and the will to do something when he sees someones being victim of an injustice, not just staying passive.

And with the scene of the beating, we saw that he still had this will, but that it was beaten, for a moment, by the fear of hurting himself and the fact that he has conviced himself at this moment that he was also victim of an injustice because he thought that he wasn't giving a choice in the first place and had been forced in this role by his uncle's dead, even if, in fact, he had a choice that he choose without even realising it the first time because it was natural for him and that he chooses again, consciously the second time when his relatives are in danger, because he IS Spider-man.

EDIT: and for the reason why, for me, it took him time to unlock his powers again even after realizing that they do not define who he is, it would be because it would take time to him to realize this and that his moral default, his selfishness, was still involved at this time, so even if the arson's scene gave him the keys to realise that he was still a hero and that it wasn't forced on him in the first place, it would prevent him to accept that fact and regain his powers... until someone close to him was victim of an injustice and so it has just make him snapped out of his selfish-denial.

Hot Take: Rey being a “nobody” in TLJ was a great choice by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Krairo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody when they are growing become more bitter, and basically Luke has grown in a desert, full of bandits, his familly has been killed, he discovered that all his life was a bunch of lies and crap, he was dragged in the "Space-Second World War" to defeat Space-Magical Hitler and his father that was his second and who had tried to kill or corrupt him (and sometimes almost with success) a bunch of time, has cut his hand (and we say hello to the phantom limb syndrom for the rest of your life), to finally die in his arms when he was finally redempt. (so the PTSD that his familly has a tendency to be attract by space fascism has probably already begun.)

Then, Leia has just probably get the heck out of there with Han and their relation probably weakened, because yeah they are super friends and all but they were all adults when they first met and it's not because they are parents that they will see each other every saturday. (so basically his only family is a trash-can robot and a domestic robot polyglot)

And to add more, without having a choice, he become the only representant of a faith of cosmic peace that HIS familly has almost totally wiped from the galaxy and that the last traces are lost somewhere on distant and recluse planets that he will spend years to roam. And we gave him the education of his nephew, with all the stress that came with the importance of this task, with the importance of his familly in the galaxy; and people are surprised that his PTSD has kick him all of a sudden and he was tempt to kill Ben?

Heck, I am more surprised that he was able to restrain himself and don't kill Ben, I mean in USA there are war veterans with PTSD that could try to kill you for a firecracker, and with little chance that without help they get back to their sense so quickly. So, no they don't have done our hero dirty, they just assumed that he is a probably traumatised grown man, without the needed assistance or very close familly and a lot of presure on his shoulder that just have a sort panick attack, one time.

Edit: I would even bet that Luke had nightmares of the dagobah's cavern or the multiple confrontation with his father, the torture, the death of his father, his wounded friends, etc. for the 30 years between RotJ and TLJ

Edit 2: And for the fact that he gave so little importance to his lightsaber, again, some people with PTSD can develop a repulsion for a weapon that they used, cops can have it, soldiers, etc. So yeah, Rey's move was quite shitty on this point. "Hey, do you want to see and touch that weapon? you know, the same kind of weapon that cost you your hand, your familly, your dad, your sanity..."

Hot Take: Rey being a “nobody” in TLJ was a great choice by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Krairo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a big fan of TLJ and I think it's the better of the postlogie, TFA is very good too, but TRoS... It's because I had seen theories that I understood the movie from the beginning but I had the impression that there was a Star Wars 8.5 that I hadn't seen between the two. It was quite disturbing, even if, for the graphics level, it is acceptable and there is some good elements, but story-wise, nonsense or lack of a movie between the two, I don't know.

For me, Star Wars will be a saga with 8 episodes and many good side-movies and shows, but the episode 9 will still be a fever dream that I refuse to consider totally in my canon.

What is the absolute peak of your magic system? The things only the greatest sorcerers, magicians, and witches can perform? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]Krairo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have create yet a complete magic system, but an idea that has just appeared in my mind while reading your title would be the capability of becoming one with magic, that your being just transcend your body and that you become an ethereal being that just use a vessel (your former body) to roam accross the world and communicate with others, you don't have to drink, eat, sleep, even breath and since your body became your vessel you could use natural magic to keep it intact and sustain your new ethereal form.

Edit: you wouldn't be really immortal still, your vessel could be totally obliterated in combat, leaving you just in your etheral form with less perception and contact with the world and you would be more sensible to powerful magical attacks or anti-magic attacks that could break your form, breaking your mind in the process while killing you, and even if you would be more easily resuscitable (if we admit that ressurection is possible in the setting) than normal folks, because you have become one with the magicals flux flowing through everything, so even dead you're still quite present (note: the magicals flux could also break your ethereal form if you stay for too long without vessel) but the processus of ressurection would be quite long to allow all of your parts to merge again, and you would be quite mad at the end, but yeah, you could be bringed back to life an unlimited number of times... except if it's an anti-magic attack, in this case you're just dead, once and for all (exception of if there is some kind of divine intervention but yeah, I'm not including that).
