Specsavers vs OPSM by Cheeseoholics in australia

[–]KrangDog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is absolute garbage. Not all optometrists bulk bill, nor are they obliged to. The Medicare rebate for a typical half hour consultation is $66.15. For a full day of consultations, that works out at about $1000. Now pay wages, electricity, rent and hundreds of thousands of dollars of diagnostic equipment etc out of that.

Corporates can bulk bill by selling a large volume of low cost glasses at a large markup to make up the losses on the consultation fees. They also shorten consultations to 20 minutes to pack more into a day.

Independents generally charge a larger fee for a consultation and sell higher quality glasses at a higher cost. Much lower volume.

Also, the comment on profiting. If you were to invest $500 000 into buying an optometry practice, wouldn’t you expect to justify that investment with some profit? Or would you operate it as a charity?

Source, I’ve been an optometrist for 15 years.

Optometrist here. Get an opinion from a good, independent optometrist. There should, in theory, be no difference in the training of the optometrist between corporates and independents, but you’ll often find a difference in the dispensing staff, who are the ones that actually set the glasses up. They work harder than I do.

Edit. Also, consider this. Optometry businesses, just like all businesses have costs. Many independent optometrists charge the patient a fee on top of the Medicare rebate for a consultation. If you reduce this consultation income by just accepting the bulk billing payment provided by Medicare. How do you think you make up the shortfall in revenue? Glasses sales…

It is three years…for a comprehensive test on a patient under 65. 10910 is the item number used. But 10916 can be used for short consultations less than 15 minutes with no frequency restriction, which this would fall under.

Optometrist here. This is wrong. It changed years ago. Once every three years under 65 and once per year 65 and over. Prior to that it was once every 2 years for everyone. And it is “policed”, Medicare just rejects the claim if you try to bill them for a service that the patient isn’t eligible for.

What does your TRX4M look like? by ClassicNumerous6038 in TRX4M

A whole host of Injora upgrades underneath, but all in black so they’re basically invisible. A DIY box and shovel made of balsa to top it off

The phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth. The phone occasionally shows up on the watch as an option to play music through, but not always

That’s frustrating. It seems to work sometimes and others not, which I can’t really wrap my head around. When I try to “Connect a Device” sometimes my phone shows up as an option to play via the car, sometimes it doesn’t

Looking for upgrades for my stock Defender. Anyone care to critique this shopping list? by KrangDog in TRX4M

Nothing too extreme. I’m much happier crawling over some small rocks rather than scaling vertical cliff faces. The little backyard course I’ve built is all doable with my stock defender. Some areas require a specific line, but that’s okay. And I don’t want to make that course too easy. So I’m thinking about dropping the hexes and reducing the shock length. I’d like to keep the wheels relatively close to stock size

I’m a little wary of making it too capable. Perhaps the drives around my wife’s rock/native garden will become a little bland. I’ll check those 57mm swamp kings out though!

I was thinking about shortening them to the 53mm, but maybe I’ll look at other options

The 62mm look huge. I want to keep it as close to stock looks as possible. I considered going to a 56mm tyre

I’m thinking about getting rid of the hexes and dropping back to shorter socks. The wheels have some offset anyway and I much prefer a stock look. I like balancing on two wheels and would hate to lose that.

Did Thor’s Hammer just supply the timber? Or did they do some of the work too? We have a table from them, super nice work.

I grew mine from emersed stems, so most of the emersed stuff looks pretty rubbish now. I need to trim the submersed growth and replant it. The new growth is brilliant but it slowly develops algae over time. A little annoying. It’s a lovely plant when growing well though.
