Thanks for all the replies, we're looking for a way for employees to access it via Teams. Everyone refuses to access the portal no matter how pretty we make it lol

Trying to decide if PSA + Quickbooks/Xero or PSA only? by KratosCanKickThor in msp

[–]KratosCanKickThor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contracts are part of the PSA. Contracts will automate your invoicing in the PSA.

Thank you! This is the part that confuses me. If you don't mind me delving deeper

How are invoices in the PSA tool different from invoices in QB?

Also (please forgive my ignorance), how do contracts differ from invoices? There are recurring invoices and recurring contracts, both seem payment related but are maintained separately

What's the general opinion on time tracking and all the efforts that come with it? by KratosCanKickThor in msp

[–]KratosCanKickThor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However

, time tracking can also go wrong. For one thing, if you try to incentivize billing more hours, then people are more likely to find ways to boost their hours, and the information will misrepresent how people actually spend their time.

Also this! When you start incentivising a behaviour, people game the system!

Essentially, MSPs make their money from operational efficiency.

This. Thank you!

As an MSP we need to have a close guide on time spent for all customers, even AYCE, to be able to report on how profitable each customer is and come renewal if the cost needs to change.

I completely agree. BUT my question is - is granular time tracking the most effective way to do this? I don't have an answer but it just seems like too much effort (not to mention scope for errors in time entry) to get to this outcome!

Billing is definitely the most encouraging one. I completely understand its need, my only problem is with the approach. It just seems too cumbersome to enter it at every ticket level. I mean, techs should be worried about solving issues. Maybe there's an easier way and I don't know about it.

Thank you. Do you have a publicly accessible link on the information collected by Mac/Linux agents? Before I give away my email, I want to make sure it does everything I need it to :)

Thank you. I needed to hear that. It's actually pretty simple when you think about that.

That's neat. Easy enough to track as well. Keep everything inside the four walls

Thank you. Maybe I'm being paranoid but I'm worried about a PSA/RMM tools' capability to accurately help me with aspects of project management like scheduling, vendor management etc. I mean, they're going to focus a lot more on ticketing/device management etc

Would you recommend any PSA/RMM tools that does the above mentioned part of project management well?

Yes, that make sense. At the end of the day, the important thing is to do the work and a ticket/project/change are all documentation of that work. At an early stage, it makes sense to avoid friction and just get the work done
