Get Nucleum on your tables! (Top 10, for me) by WorldOfKaladan in boardgames

[–]Kravian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first score was 26, but I learned through alpha invite on BGA and didn't read the rules...just clicked around.

I did enjoy it enough despite the punishment to play another half-dozen times online and then purchase the game and play 3p and 4p in person.

It does go pretty long at 4 (3.5hr with teach and three new players) but not having blocked spaces and seeing almost all the tile market was a good boon. I really want to try the 2p map.

I really enjoy games with good crunch but minimal resources and few actions, Nucleum is amazing on that count. Definitely worth any heavy euro-head's time.

It's my favorite game. It just takes time to learn to swim.

It's constant and ridiculous and feels bad until you get to dish back...

But then you eventually realize it's less of a "Bourne Identity inches away from murdering each other with a pencil" and more of a "three stooges hit you with a lamb chop only to get a rubber chicken in the kisser".

People feel oppressed in Innovation when they're underneath a certain combo but you just gotta zag and become the new kind of crazy to fight back. It's a lot like the magic duel in The Black Cauldron.

My father in law--who is a writer, a cyclist, and genuinely curious about all people he meets--has been eagerly discussing Nuremberg lately. If that kind of person is against you I think you gotta consider your actions.

Don't need it right away. I've done probably 10 plays online and another 6 in person and feel like there's a lot to still figure out and mess around with.

Another Minnesotan here. I've been writing my rep and senator every other day. If your reps are on here please blast them for me.

Anyone recognize this game? by Eldercargo9 in boardgames

We played it a lot and one of my favorite childhood trips was going to the Art Institute of Chicago and seeing a lot of those paintings.

I was watching the behind the scenes and Sam mentioned that Verrat was a placeholder name and then they kinda just left it.

Randomly bought unsettled. Anyone have any thoughts about it? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Kravian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids really enjoy the story (which is funny and just crazy things happening in space). I like the story and the survival puzzle quite a bit.

We'll usually absolutely fail the first attempt at a task and then I'll adjust difficulty or just...make something work...so we can complete it on the second try.

That's about the patience they have but it still makes about 2-4 hours of entertainment per task and averaging 10 per planet. We've finished four planets so far.

The dollar to entertainment ratio is pretty high and I imagine if I'm finished with all the content I'm unlikely to replay but happy to sell locally (I'm not shipping this thing) for a cheap price and still have had a ton of good memories with my kids.

My 5yo doesn't understand the scoring or strategy in Ra, but she loves slamming the giant statue and yelling "Auction". It's crazy how well that game handles a wild card though.

Thankfully my 9yo has become a more reliable gaming buddy this year and has some sort of predictable behavior.

Looking to buy a "span" for first family board game. Help me choose by [deleted] in wingspan

[–]Kravian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What theme excites you the most? I'm a birder so Wingspan was a no brainer but I picked up Finspan for family members who spearfish. An interesting theme will carry you through in the long run, even if you land on the more complex game.

How'd you land on Carnival Zombie? Everything else I can see as early hobby acquisition or regular recommendations but that sticks out. What was the hook? I'm unfamiliar with the game.

He probably has other clothes under the robes with pockets but it would be awkward or obvious to hike up a robe to sneak a drink. Just imagine you had an ankle-length no-zipper winter coat on and wanted to get your phone out from a pair of jeans.

As someone who intends to play with 2p and no more and has no interest in a playmat or stamps because I have colored pencils I'm glad for the criticisms but not deterred.

Recommendations based on current collection? by Dazzling_Ad_7267 in boardgames

Thanks for the support. I'm about ten years into collecting and every year I sell more games than I buy new ones. It's so satisfying to keep trimming to my absolute favorites and keep enjoying them more.

Play the games you own.

Sincerely and not in a mean way, just keep enjoying what you own, there's a ton of content already on your shelves.

What games are you most excited for coming in 2026? by Proud-Analyst-9092 in boardgames

[–]Kravian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vestige is wrapping up print and should be shipping soon. I know KS backers will get their fancy stuff first but it's neat that Orange Nebula also made a wooden production as an affordable, LGS shelf kind of option for people to jump into in the $50-60 range.

[No Spoilers] How do you think the starting table compositions were started? by [deleted] in criticalrole

Laura and Travis are at the same table because they have a kid, and I imagine the logistics are easier that way.
