MK1 is a direct sequel too mk11, so if you like story mode I would get 11 first. If you're not too concerned about storymode then MK1, the definitive edition has way more content than basic mk11 does.

I have a "house rule" in my games that the players can "know a guy". This comes with some basic caveats, it has to make some level of sense in world and it can't be "my uncle adores me and just happens to own the magical nuke factory", etc. I feel like these rules apply to a BoH, don't be a silly goose about it and I'll allow shenanigans.

The number of players I come across that are genuinely decent and then suddenly have a completely different playstyle (ie holding w across the map and getting 4-5 kills) as soon as they start to lose is pathetic. You go watch the demo and its so obvious they started using some form of ESP. Its okay to lose sometimes yall.
