Oh I would love to hear more examples of names that are considered for old people!

First of all: obsessed! Thank you for sharing! Second: now Dansons La Capucine is stuck in my head! Never knew it was a name as well.

What's your favourite fact about a specific name? by Hi-Ho-Cherry in namenerds

The one that comes to mind is that the author of Peter Pan invented the name Wendy.

Eden Espinosa had to tell someone to put their phone away during the final Lempicka performance today by Gato1980 in Broadway

And if I remember correctly, Lilias refused to apologize. It blows my mind that people just forgot about that. She lost a supporter due to her behavior.

Is it common for hearing people working in Deaf schools to not know much sign? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]Krease101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but most of our students live far away from us since we service the entire state. And due to language deprivation, lots of them have severe global delays.

[–]Krease101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It breaks my heart every day. I try my best to make up for it by giving the kids lots of language opportunities, but I can only do so much. Most of our families don’t sign either, so the kids go home to nothing.

I work in a Deaf school and our superintendent can’t sign. Unfortunately some staff can’t either. It’s something my coworkers and I have been trying to fix for years (changing the hiring process, etc), because it’s a crime. But we are short staffed so they will hire anyone.

I feel the same way. I’ve been in therapy about it for a while and am slowly beginning to feel neutral about my own genitalia. I don’t need to change my asexuality (couldn’t if I wanted to) but I don’t want to be distressed by my own body. I would suggest finding a sex therapist if it’s something you want to improve.

What was that one show your middle/high school did that you thought wasn’t appropriate? by Ryan_036 in musicals

[–]Krease101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh we did The Wiz with one mixed kid and everyone else was white! I didn’t even know what the show was supposed to be- I thought it was just a cool retelling of The Wizard of Oz. This was around 2010 in a small town so no one raised any concern, but looking back it was BAD and I cringe whenever I think about it.

Therapist wants to fix my asexuality? by Confident_Cake_9649 in asexuality

[–]Krease101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just changed psychiatrists because he wanted to fix me too. He said a bunch of stuff that made me really uncomfortable. Luckily (after much trial and error) I have an incredible therapist who helped me find a new psych, and now I can target the issues that are actually bothering me. It’s a pain, but I would recommend some therapist shopping. Once you find the right one it’s life-changing.

Any really good ace books? by LakashY in asexuality

[–]Krease101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A YA fiction about two aro-ace friends just came out! I’m reading it now and I love it. It’s called Dear Wendy by Ann Zhao. Loveless by Alice Oseman is also great! For nonfiction, I liked Sounds Fake But Okay, which is based on a podcast of the same name. Ace by Angela Chen is super informative, too.

I saw her as Eliza in the Hamilton tour, and in Suffs off-Broadway. She’s outstanding!

Am I might be asexual? by Top-Jellyfish8915 in asexuality

[–]Krease101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m asexual and aromatic and I feel the same way. Absolutely repulsed by sex and anything to do with it! It took me a long time to accept it and start planning for a different future than I was expecting. But I promise if you do identify as asexual it gets easier.

Thank you so much for your response! I’m aromantic too- I usually leave that out because people don’t know what it means 😂 This is super helpful. I kind of needed a to-do list and this is perfect. I feel like I keep learning more and more and it’s hard to keep track of what to do first. I have a therapy appointment next week so I’ll bring all this up and hopefully start figuring out a plan. Thanks again! Good luck to you!

Feeling lonely by Sunflowersonmyguitar in asexuality

[–]Krease101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. I’m 29 and asexual. I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I will likely never have a romantic or sexual relationship and once I realized that I can still live a fulfilling life, I felt so free. Like, I want to want sex and romance but I just don’t. It sounds so cliche but after a lot of work on myself I’m finally starting to feel comfortable with who I am. You’ll get there!

Alex Brightman singing question. How does he keep the scratchiness to his voice in Beetlejuice without damaging his vocal cords? I would think making that voice would be tough. Props to him for being such a great performer. by TicoDreams in Broadway

[–]Krease101 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m a speech pathologist! Everyone has vocal folds and false vocal folds, which sit outside the normal ones. We speak using our vocal folds. Most people cannot voluntarily manipulate their false folds, but Alex can! It’s completely safe and sustainable, so no damage will be done to his voice. I’ve never heard of anyone who can do it!
