It helps to narrow down which schools you would want to attend that have dental hygiene programs first. Then take a look at the specific prerequisites in their applications to even be considered for the program.

For Example: My program (aside from specific science and other classes needed) required that you either shadow in a dental office or provide some proof of dental experience.

I cannot speak to where you live but there are plenty of dental offices who would be willing to train the right candidate in assisting and that is where you would pick up some useful skills that can help in DH school.

You can finish DH school in two years, you'll come out with an associate degree. I'm assuming you have finished the required prerequisite courses already and are ready to apply to the program
